Position Purpose

Handles requirements to ensure a functional, comfortable and safe environment for all users, assessing maintenance and repair needs, assigning, monitoring and managing work, and ensuring that work carried out by external contractors and the University of Ottawa Facilities service meets established service standards.

Acts as a first responder in emergencies.

Essential Qualifications

High school diploma and five years’ relevant experience

Knowledge and experience regarding inventory methods (furniture, work equipment, computer equipment)

Experience in executing and supervising household maintenance

Valid First Aid Certification issued by a recognized organization in Canada

Customer service experience and skills (listening, empathy, reconciliation, patience and interpersonal skills), with ability to communicate with respect, tact and discretion

Knowledge of protection of people and property, as well as risk and emergency management

Ability to work independently and in a team, as well as to manage time effectively

Ability to travel across the campus indoors and outdoors all year for daily and weekly inspections of facilities under his or her responsibility in support of the operations team, according to own schedule

Valid driver’s licence

Ability to handle and lift loads of up to 25 kilos

Availability to work outside normal working hours at peak times (evenings, weekends) and overtime as scheduled by the Housing Service

Bilingualism French / English (spoken and written)
