Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Total Care Worker to join the the Older Adult Mental Health Assessment & Treatment team at the Willow Pavilion on the Vancouver General Hospital site.

As a Total Care Worker at the Willow Pavilion you will :

Provide care to the older adult population who have acute deterioration or exacerbation of severe psychiatric symptoms with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) as well as physical care needs.

Work closely with the Program Coordinator and under the direction of the Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Social Worker, this position works with the interdisciplinary tertiary mental health team to carry out individual or group leisure activities and established nursing / personal care programs.

You will support your patients and clients by : selecting and carrying out activities;assisting the client with practising daily living skills;

accompanying clients on group outings;observing and reporting client progress;participating in unit discussions and in-services;

and performing nursing procedures such as administering suppositories and enemas and taking and recording temperature, pulse and respiration.

Provide personal care to clients such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and feeding.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education & Experience

Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program plus 2 years’ recent experience working with older adults with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete a Food Safe certification course during their orientation / qualifying period in order to be deemed to have successfully passed their qualifying period.
