Chauffeur- Part-Time

Located in Downtown Halifax, Parkland at the Gardens and reporting to the Business Manager as part of the Front Office Team the Chauffer provides transportation and exceptional client services to the clients of Parkland.

The Chauffeur provides these services ensuring compliance with applicable local, provincial and federal safety regulations and traffic laws.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Include :

  • Acts as an ambassador for Parkland;
  • Transports clients to appointments or outings as per the transportation schedule;
  • Greets and meets all clients with a smile and an offer to assist;
  • Assists clients with unloading packages and opening doors;
  • Ensures clients are not kept waiting;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of respecting client’s rights, including : respecting others, maintaining confidentiality, promoting independence, respecting privacy, respecting the right to refuse services and involvement;
  • Communicates with the Health Services Department if there is a noted change in the medical status of the client e.g. increased confusion;
  • Provides assistance to clients as required with : entering and exiting the vehicle, mobility aides / devices e.g. canes, walkers;
  • carrying parcels or other items, opening doors and entering buildings;
  • Maintains contact with the Concierge regarding transportation pick-up and drop-off times, changes to schedule, etc.;
  • Ensures all clients travelling in any Parkland vehicle are safely belted and comply with the Shannex Safety Policies;
  • Maintains vehicles in peak operating condition and carries out all prescribed routine maintenance functions while maintaining accurate maintenance log records;
  • Schedules regular mechanical tune-up with authorized service shop;
  • Operates vehicle with due care to ensure timely, safe and consistent delivery.
  • Keep all vehicles used for client transportation services well maintained and clean at all times.
  • Performs general cleaning and upkeep duties for the vehicle(s);
  • Cleans off snow or debris from Parkland or client owned vehicles as required;
  • Utilizes vehicle and equipment in a responsible way e.g. adheres to traffic rules and laws.

  • Requirements Include :

  • High School diploma or equivalent education completed;
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification;
  • Knowledge of the federal, provincial and municipal safety and traffic laws and regulations;
  • Superior customer service skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours / shifts inclusive of days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Supplemental Qualifications considered an asset :

  • Previous experience as a driver / chauffeur is an asset;
  • Bilingualism in French / English;
  • Previous experience in working with seniors or in a seniors living environment;
