Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Hydrotechnical / Water Resources Engineer to join the Hatch team in Vancouver.

This position will involve being part of a team of global experts and specialists to complete challenging projects in water resources engineering.

Hatch’s Dynamic Earth Solutions group is focused on developing and managing water resources for many purposes with a focus on dams and reservoirs, flood protection, climate resiliency and green energy.

In addition, our current water infrastructure is aging with many dams and facilities requiring expert guidance to rehabilitate and rebuild these structures to last for the next generations.

As the successful candidate, you will perform the below tasks :

  • Support design of hydraulic structures (spillways, conduits, drop structures, culverts etc.)
  • 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic modelling of open channel systems and hydraulic structures
  • Participating in surface water resources projects, including watershed management, impact assessments, natural channel design, and flood mapping
  • Hydrologic analysis (statistical and rainfall runoff modelling)
  • Dam safety reviews
  • Reservoir routing studies
  • Watershed management studies
  • Design of flood control infrastructure
  • Projects will generally be concentrated within the water resources, flood control and hydropower sectors with opportunities to participate in the infrastructure and mining / industrial sectors
  • Performing engineering analyses and designs in collaboration with other disciplines
  • Preparing technical reports
  • Other duties as required
  • You will have a background in :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an Accredited University is required.
  • Eligibility to register as an EIT or Engineer with EGBC.
  • Basic understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Familiarity with hydrology, hydraulics, database and GIS software.
  • Team focused with excellent interpersonal skills and the drive to learn.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • An ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license.
