Sr.Manager Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM)
The Manager RAM Sr. provides strategic and operational leadership to the Operational Technology RAM team. The overall team mandate is to ensure that solutions developed by Operational Technology (OT) have attributes of high robustness, reliability, and availability as measured by field RAM Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
The technologies used in the OT solutions are primarily distributed digital control systems, communication networks, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), embedded and virtualized computing.
This role engages with other railroad technical teams, and industry organisations such as Transportation Technology Center Inc.
TTCI) and regulatory organizations such as the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

Ensure knowledge is preserved through cross-training for key skill sets in the team (knowledge transfer).
RAM Practice Development
Establish best-in-class RAM processes, methodologies, and tooling
Follow industry developments for RAM analysis techniques and methodologies, with a focus on expanding team capability for emerging disciplines such as software reliability for embedded applications and virtualized datacentre applications
Define a roadmap for leveraging the OT Data Services platform to measure RAM field data to produce KPIs and drive operational improvements
Raise the RAM capability of the CN vendor ecosystem through partnerships with vendors, CN vendor management processes, and through TTCI RAM initiatives
Develop quick turnaround proof-of-concept projects to prove demonstrate the validity of new methodologies. Institutionalize the successful new practices.
Initiatives & Assignation Management
Develop a capacity versus demand management system to be able to provide RAM support to all the initiatives requiring it.
This will primarily be solutions developed by OT, but could also be activities from other CN organizations and businesses
Develop and evolve as required, a business process for projects and products to engage with the RAM from technical and planning perspectives
Allocate RAM resources to projects based on priority and business value
Ensure RAM team adherence to established OT processes
Develop and evolve as required, a business process for governance of RAM data driven decisions and action plans. Assign resources and drive plans based on outcomes from the governance process.
May require occasional business travel.
Minimum 15 to 20 years of overall work experience in hardware development, software development and reliability analysis, preferably in telecommunications, aerospace, or rail industry, with accountability for reliability-availability-maintainability field performance
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role, leading teams of 10+ individuals in a technical context, with accountability for workforce planning and budget.
Education / Certification / Designation
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree or experience
PMP / PMI certification (Asset).

Technical Skills / Knowledge
Detailed knowledge of hardware design, software design and system design within a high availability product sector
Detailed knowledge of system requirements definition / design
Detailed knowledge of high availability reliability program development
Detailed knowledge of FEMCA, HALT / HASS, MTBF calculation and familiarity with industry BOM databases (such as Telcordia)
High availability R&D product design background in hardware, software and reliability
Modelling to prove the correctness of the system design and reliability
Rail industry operations (Asset).
