We are currently looking for a hands-on and experienced Software Engineering Director to grow with the company. As a Software Engineering Director, you will mainly drive the implementation of the modernization of the OPENLANE buyer interface and its underlying services.
Primary duties include working with Product Managers / Owners, Architects and other business stakeholders to understand business requirements, and proposing solutions and that meet the business needs and implementing the end-to-end solutions.
On a daily basis, the Software Engineering Director will need to manage a groups of Full-stack Software Engineering teams, as well as mentoring and guiding them to achieve their career goals.
You need to interact extensively with external groups such as Product Management, Business Analyst, Project Management, QA and Production Support, and effectively acts as a filter for communication from these external groups to the individual contributors so that they can focus on getting the work done in a timely manner.
Ideal candidate must demonstrate that you are a collaborative and results-driven lead with a proven track record of successes in building microservices in a distributed cloud environment, and comfortable in the dynamic and busy atmosphere.
What You Will Be Doing : As a part of the Leadership team, you will be working closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects to define business requirements, develop and document technical solutions, and provide engineering estimates for planning Manage and prioritize the workload of full-stack developers / engineers, and set measurable objectives for the team and guide / help them to achieve the goals Lead and perform regular code reviews and write annual performance reviews for engineers Empower and motivate engineers to grow and build their career Participate in the recruitment of engineers Coordinate tasks and responsibilities with various engineering groups in different time zones Actively lead or participate in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to testing, deployments and the overall health of the live system.
Engage in technical design and discussions with engineers Mentor and lead an engineering group. Ensure good coding practices are being followed, and that everyone has what they need to do their work Keep tracking code quality and design processes to keep improving code quality Proactively identify potential issues, and design short-term and long-term solutions Conduct and analyze performance testing, troubleshooting and optimizations Keep up-to-date and grow your own skills Explore new technologies, learn new concepts and share ideas with others Lead the team to meet deadlines, be accountable and independently determine solutions for complex issues What You Need to Be Successful : BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree required 7+ years of Team management & Leadership experience within cross functional technical teams (Engineering, QA, Operations) 15+ years of software development experience with a balanced focus on building scalable back-end services and performant front-end UIs.
Experience with the SDLC and post-launch Production support; and experience with iterative software development life-cycle methodologies and frameworks such as Agile, SCRUM, Test Driven Development, etc.
Extensively experience using the following technologies and tools is required : NodeJs, TypeScript, front-end technologies such as Angular, React or Vue, Relational database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, NoSql exposure to NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB or DynamoDB, experience working with the AWS cloud environment (EC2, Lambda, Kinesis, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB), versioning code in Git / GitHub, working experience building stateless APIs (REST, bonus points for GraphQL or gRPC), understanding of pub-sub design patterns and technologies (Kinesis, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, Oracle GoldenGate), testing frameworks such as Mocha, Selenium, Jest, etc.
DevOps tooling and automation in Jenkins, CloudFormation, Docker. Experience in working with highly collaborative teams with lots of service interdependencies.
Software design, architecture, microservice design and data integration experience Knowledge of database theory. Familiarity with both relational and non relational databases Working knowledge or broad experience with Jira and Confluence Excellent communication skills - able to communicate effectively with technical / non-technical personnel Experience working with geographically distributed teams (i.
