An individual is needed to manage HPM accounts for supply of custom-designed equipment (CDE) for upcoming projects with an estimated portfolio value of $20 million.

The employee will also be trained by HPM staff to assist with proposals, cost analysis, commercial terms and conditions, and related business development activities.

The estimated net profit margin (in excess of Hatch’s in-house labour costs) on equipment supply is 20% (i.e. $4 million on $20 million in sales).

We believe there is significant potential to grow our CDE supply business with multiple clients over the next 5 years due to refurbishment and replacement of aging assets.

Role and Duties

This role primarily relates to the purchasing, cost control and reporting of multiple orders of materials, components and specialized manufacturing services associated with Hatch’s design and supply of custom-designed equipment.

The employee will work closely with an established team of engineers and project managers, and a group of pre-qualified and preferred suppliers.

Prior to placement of purchase orders, job duties include the following pre-award activities :

  • planning the purchasing and delivery schedules for materials and fabrication services,
  • issue bid inquiries and manage the tendering processes,
  • complete commercial bid evaluations and clarifications with bidders,
  • negotiation of pricing and discounts from preferred suppliers to reach cost targets,
  • prepare purchase requisitions,
  • prepare and issue Hatch purchase orders for materials and services.
  • Following PO award, job duties include the following post-award activities :

  • verification of payment milestones
  • processing of payments,
  • invoicing of clients,
  • valuation of inventory, goods-in-process, and completed goods,
  • reconciliation of accounts, discrepancies in invoices and delivery receipts,
  • cash flow projections and commitments,
  • calculation of taxes and duties,
  • preparation of commercial invoices,
  • closure of purchase orders.
  • In addition to the above noted duties, the employee will also maintain records for both ongoing and completed projects, including :

  • a log of all suppliers, non-disclosure and IP agreements, and supplier pre-qualification records,
  • all purchase orders processed through Hatch’s material procurement system,
  • records of all spare parts and replacement components,
  • records of all warranty claims and service visits.
  • This individual will also assist the management team with preparation of estimates and proposals for CDE packages and will participate in regular (weekly) team meetings with the program manager, production manager, scheduler and package engineers.

    Required Skills and Abilities

    The position requires a combination of skills in business accounting and commercial experience in dealing with equipment manufacturers and material suppliers.

    As a minimum, candidates need to have a diploma in small business accounting or bookkeeping, and demonstrated skills in Quickbooks™, Sage™, or other accounting and reporting software typically used in manufacturing.

    The ideal candidate will have 7 10 years of experience in a manufacturing company, particularly involving the sale, production, and after-market servicing of highly-engineered equipment.

    The candidate must have strong verbal and written communications skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 10 products such as Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint.

    The ideal candidate will have excellent problem solving and logic skills, be self-motivated, flexible and adaptable, be willing and able to learn new skills, and be able to multi-task and prioritize activities in a highly dynamic environment.
