Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Portfolio Construction and Risk Management, the incumbent oversees developing and presenting strategies for portfolio construction, optimization of risk-
adjusted returns and asset allocation that further the Company’s corporate goals.
As an advisor to management and the Company’s various business units, the incumbent is a source knowledge in his or her field and is highly skilled at communicating proposed ideas and strategies in an accessible way.
The incumbent takes a teamwork approach and works to advance the Company’s objectives.
He or she leads a team of engaged professionals in a way that promotes collaboration and produces results.
The incumbent’s responsibilities are as follows :
Design an investment strategy for the global portfolio as part of the strategic planning process;
Based on the strategic plan, develop an asset allocation strategy and a model portfolio to guide investment activities.
Ensure quarterly monitoring;
Direct qualitative and quantitative analyses to help in developing an asset allocation strategy for the global portfolio, by working to create a portfolio optimization tool to facilitate :
Defining the optimal portfolio profile in terms of risk-adjusted returns;
Making recommendations regarding the objective for the absolute portfolio return and value-added thresholds;
Work with the Risk Management team to ensure the required performance thresholds are met for individual transactions, based on investment characteristics and market conditions;
Plan and oversee the creation of the yearly calendar for designated activities;
Develop portfolio analysis methodology :
Incorporate the macroeconomic aspect and econometric models of the research team;
Create real estate and portfolio impact scenarios;
Break down the portfolio by return and risk factors;
Evaluate the risk / return ratio in financial terms and set out an approach with a factor-based risk budget, minimum-variance portfolio and an allocation approach by country / city / sector;
Ensure that the components of the current and projected portfolio make it possible to achieve performance targets while still complying with all investment and risk management policies;
Monitor changes in the portfolio based on strategic investment plans and common risks (concentration, partners, lease expiry dates, etc.);
Periodically assess the global portfolio and its positioning, and recommend capital allocation strategies based on the analysis of cycle changes and long-
term trends in order to improve overall performance;
Direct the financial modelling of the global portfolio, including forecasted returns and portfolio projections, in keeping with strategic investment planning, in collaboration with various business units and the Finance team;
Make sure that the team’s software tools (e.g.
Global Fund, MRMI, PAT, Datamart, etc.) are optimized;
Monitor industry peers through market trend analyses;
Maintain open communication with CDPQ depositors and minority shareholders by way of regular presentations and meetings.
Fifteen to twenty years of experience managing institutional investments;
Master’s degree in finance, CFA or degree in actuarial science;
Experience managing a high-performance team of professionals;
In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of financial and quantitative analysis and real estate portfolio modelling;
Excellent written and spoken communication skills, the ability to speak clearly and concisely and a talent for expressing often complex mathematical concepts in plain language;
Capable of multitasking and working under pressure while handling tight deadlines and constantly shifting schedules;
Able to influence and motivate others and establish productive working relationships with people at all levels of the organization;
Team player with strong organizational and prioritization skills and a desire to contribute to a high-performance culture;
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
Fully fluent in written and spoken French and English.
