Job Overview : This position requires an individual with broad mining experience, some combination of operations and engineering experience is a plus, as well as proven technical competencies to support underground mining operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing future mine workings and generating accurate mid and long range mine plans / schedules to ensure the mine is developed and operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

This position involves working closely with the mine operations, maintenance, and engineering groups to produce and maintain accurate schedules and provide input to capital and maintenance planning.

Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Promote and demonstrate safe behaviour and leadership;
  • Comply with site standards and procedures at all times;
  • Development of a detailed Life Of Mine plan and schedule that provides a detailed perspective to the business needs;
  • Design and analyze using planning software programs such as Deswik, XPAC, MineSight 3D, Carlson, Minemax, Vulcan, or similar packages;
  • Develop and update design parameters that include but are not limited to; primary ventilation, mine support services, and ground control as it relates to long term development / panel stability;
  • Generate reserve calculations in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Conduct financial modelling and Life Of Mine studies;
  • Provide mine engineering and capital planning expertise;
  • Analyze and evaluate mine plans, schedules, and capital plans with multiple, competing constraints to determine optimal path forward;
  • Identify, analyze, recommend, and bring into action opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements;
  • Participate in equipment selection process to suit the long term needs of the operation;
  • Delivery of project summaries, LoM plans, and budgets to key stakeholders in senior leadership positions.


    Your Capabilities and Credentials :

  • Background in mine engineering and planning with a high level of understanding of underground mining activities, experience with continuous mining is considered an asset;
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills are required, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and mine design / scheduling software;
  • Previous experience with mine design, planning, and scheduling software is required (Mine 24-D, EPS, MineCAD, GEMS, SURPAC, Deswik, Vulcan, Carlson)

  • Prior experience in laying a foundational mine-planning process;
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills;
  • Strong understanding of Ontario Mining and OH&S Regulations;
  • Positive safety mindset and leadership skills;
  • Soft rock mining experience is considered an asset;
  • Ability to work underground.

    Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering with preference given to those with post-graduate degrees in a related field;
  • At least 7-10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience with at least 5 years of mine planning / scheduling experience;
  • Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario, or ability to obtain professional designation within six months is considered an asset.
