Job Description

The Manager, Operations, Risk & Controls, reporting to the Director, Operations, Risk & Controls, will be responsible for supervising a team of Risk and Control Leads, and will ensure the appropriate control monitoring, testing, and reporting related to risk and control deficiencies for the Canadian Retail Operations and Trust services are implemented accordingly.

The Manager ensures the completion and documentation of the key risks and controls in the Risk and Control Inventory (i.

e. Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Authority to Operate (ATO), End-User Computing (EUC), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), etc.

The Manager will work with Global Wealth Asset Management (GWAM) Operations Risk Management team to ensure all issues are reviewed and remediated accordingly and will lead all aspects of the Risk and Control Leads in the completion of the internal and external audits for the Operational teams.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth background and expertise in the asset management industry, in addition to significant experience with internal controls and / or the management of operational risks.

A keen ability to build relationships with the impacted stakeholders. Strong analytical skills and the ability to think outside the box offering multiple options for solutions.

Your Contribution & Functions :

  • Lead, motivate, coach, advise and be responsible for the Risk and Controls Team
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of the Risk and Controls team, in addition to implement new processes and testing plans
  • Work with Operational Teams to implement new controls, establish a starting point RCSA and perform regular testing
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of a new risk and controls team, processes, testing
  • Supervise Control Leads to ensure the appropriate control monitoring, testing and reporting related to risk and control deficiencies for the Manulife Investments, Trust and Securities Services (MITSS) department is in place
  • Ensure day-today control testing schedule for the MITSS Operational Teams is adhered to
  • Evaluate and recommend new controls where gaps have been identified
  • Collect, review and handle internal risk incidents / loss events, ensure they are logged in timely and that corrective actions plans (CAPs) are developed and implemented within the given deadlines
  • Business Continuity Plans oversight and co-ordination
  • Work with the MITSS Operational Leaders to review and respond to audit findings and recommendations, supervise and ensure audit points are closed within the timeframe specified by audit
  • Lead all aspects of the implementation of internal control process improvements based on audit points
  • Ensure the Risk and Controls team adheres to the audit schedule and provides updates to management as the need arises
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with the various Operational Leaders as well as the GWAM Risk Management team
  • Be the central point of contact for audit for the MITSS department. Assist and support in responding efficiently to internal and external auditors.
  • Qualifications :

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum of (7-10) years of relevant experience
  • Experience in coaching and leading a team
  • Accounting designation, CPA required
  • Excellent knowledge of internal controls to handle operational risks
  • Strong operational knowledge of Manulife products such as Mutual funds and segregated funds and of Manulife Investments, Trust and Securities Services (MITSS)
  • Knowledge of how to apply effective internal controls in a project or steady state operations environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrate creative and critical thinking skills
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal, in both English and French
