As the Compliance Lead for Canadian Payroll you will be Xero’s resident expert on all things Canadian Payroll, understanding applicable legislation top to bottom, inside and out.

You will be charged with defining the compliance requirements for the Canadian Payroll product and eliminating the stress of payroll compliance for our customers, therefore making it easier for small business owners to pay and manage their people.

How you'll make an impact

  • Help small business owners remain compliant with all relevant legislation, creating customer delight and market opportunity from legislative needs
  • Contribute to the methodical validation of a compliance product roadmap
  • People
  • As a Lead together with the Product Manager & Owners, you’ll share a responsibility for aspects of making the Product team better, such as : creating better processes across the team continuously improving ways we work with varied teams across countries and departments.
  • Building strong relationships with Product Owners to help influence prioritisation of work and roadmap items so we deliver the best in class service experience to all customers
  • Role model positive behaviours and ways of getting things done. Championing Xero values, and across broader Xero to ensure that we create connected end-to-end customer experiences that progress the small business platform
  • Product Vision & Strategy
  • Apply your domain expertise and unique SME perspective to contribute to the the overall vision for Canadian Payroll
  • You will help manage the pipeline of work with the Product Manager including refining or prioritisation models, helping engage with delivery team when required to assist with work
  • Establish and take ownership of the clear compliance roadmap and the act as the key Product liaison in-region with the changing regulatory landscape
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Product Strategy and your stakeholder community to develop and maintain a tangible product strategy outlining desired outcomes and ambitions for the year
  • Stakeholders
  • Partner with Regional GTM / Product Marketing teams to help create clear value propositions based on understanding the market landscape for payroll, customers, competitors, regulatory & technology trends, and areas of opportunity for compliance
  • Product key liaison in-region, maintaining constant dialogue with Canadian leadership team, GTM and front-line teams.
  • Maintain a rolling 12 month compliance roadmap, derived from real data & market insights, participate in ideation processes and robust product discovery methodologies
  • Actively participate in relevant regulatory forums across Xero, ensuring that your expertise and market knowledge are shared more broadly
  • Cultivate healthy working relationships with regional leadership and GTM teams ensuring constant dialogue and communication of priorities and progress for compliance trends
  • A natural collaborator, you'll work closely with a broad group of stakeholders and subject matter experts and inspire and lead discussions both internally with colleagues and externally with employee groups, including senior regional stakeholders.
  • Ongoing robust education of product, delivery and other teams across Xero on the changing Payroll domain
  • Delivery & Execution
  • Actively monitor the regulatory and industry landscape for emerging regulatory needs relating to Payroll, ensuring the implications of these are understood and fed into strategic and delivery planning.

  • Identify clear measures of success for compliance activities, work with relevant teams to communicate, track and manage your metrics against the OKRs.
  • Ensure that delivery plans are underpinned with a laser compliance focus, collaborative prioritisation and participation in regular planning activities
  • Provide healthy subject matter expertise and coordinate with CX, comms teams and others to ensure that incidents are remediated in an accurate, efficient and fully compliant way.

  • Demonstrated experience in Canadian payroll and compliance understand the triggers and risks
  • Proven success managing compliance & regulatory assessments
  • Stakeholder management and coordination across complex businesses
  • Strong experience taking a holistic view of your product (customer, commercial, competitor, delivery and macro trends)
  • Demonstrable experience collaborating with a diverse stakeholder group to realise commercial outcomes
  • Solid understanding of SaaS business models
