Job description / Person specification

Role Purpose

The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the company’s records and daily financial activities including but not limited to the following :

  • Primary point of contact and responsibility for recording day-to-day financial activity including general ledger activity for Financial Statement creation and monthly reconciliations.
  • Review and Posting of transactions in all subledgers (AP, AR, Inventory, Fixed Assets).
  • Execute all aspects of payroll processing from employee setup and periodic payroll runs through T4 creation and government statutory reporting.
  • Monthly financial variance analysis in support of the corporate reporting process and periodic detailed financial reporting in support of the PM’s and overall Project Management Process.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Continuously evaluate existing financial processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from improvement and in conjunction with the Director of Finance, recommend and implement changes to financial policy, procedure, and work instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

  • Key Capabilities / Knowledge

  • 5 years minimum experience in industry or public practice. A combination of the two is preferable.
  • High degree of proficiency in ERP Software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and general computer proficiency in standard office tools (MS Office Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.).
  • Desirable, but not required :

  • ERP Implementation experience.
  • Report writing using specific ERP tools (SAP, Oracle etc.), standard database add-ons (Crystal Reports, Congnos etc.), or ad hoc reporting through data manipulation in Excel (Pivot tables etc.)
  • Regulatory reporting experience (GST, Non-Resident Tax, Excise Tax, SR&ED).
  • IFRS Reporting Standards Knowledge
  • Multi-Currency exposure.

    Experience & Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Accounting related diploma or higher from a recognized institution.
  • At or near the completion of the CPA designation.
