Position Summary :
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for creating and leading recreational activities for the community at large. Will work closely with the Events and Cultural worker in planning activities for the community.
Focus on getting our community active. A portion of the position will be fitness and recreation activities for the community.
The Recreation Coordinator will consult with staff and community members to determine their needs and interests and establish activities in response to those needs.
The Recreation Coordinator will report to the Director of Inter-government affairs. This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week.
Qualifications / Requirements :
Full Vaccination against COVID-19 is a precondition of new employment. A successful candidate offered employment at SIB will need to provide proof of full vaccination prior to commencing employment.
Exemptions permitted as outlined in SIB covid vaccination policy
Experience in establishing and implementing recreational activities that promote physical activity and fun, for adults and for families
Experience in inspiring and engaging community
Some training in recreation programming and leadership preferred
A strong passion for Seabird Island community wellness and engagement.
Ability and willingness to work evenings and Saturdays.
Willingness to work with the Seabird Events, Culture and the Seabird Nutrition teams.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Internet, and Email).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó : lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Primary Responsibilities :
Researches and develops programs for community.
Assesses the program requirements of community in the community.
Communicates with community to determine their needs and interests.
Ensures a variety of fitness and recreation programs are planned and implemented.
Coordinates an advertising campaign to promote recreation activities.
Ensures that community members are aware of available activities.
Encourages community members to participate.
Works with other staff to mainstream similar programs.
Monitors and incorporates the fitness facilities.
Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director, or the CAO.
