Reporting to the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, this position is responsible for supporting all Baylis Medical locations in Canada to ensure compliance with all internal and external standards.
This involves supporting the scheduling and implementation of audits at all locations across Canada as well as researching new research and best practices.
This role will act as the key resource and contact for all Occupational Health & Safety Committee’s in Baylis Medical. The position shall support in the coordinating, scheduling and conducting training for Baylis Medical employees across Canada.
Snapshot of Responsibilities
Conduct health safety and environmental risk assessments
Conduct regularly scheduled compliance audits at all Baylis Medical sites in Canada.
Assist in the training sessions of full time and seasonal workers across Canada in the aspects of HSE policies, procedures, and Baylis Medical key requirements
Assist in the management of all work-related injuries that require notification to the various worker’s compensation boards
Communicate audit / inspections recommendations and requirements to appropriate Baylis Medical managers and ensure that appropriate remedial actions have been carried out.
Work with the Operational teams to ensure that the organization is meeting and exceeding all internal requirements.
Monitor and review the standard operating procedures authored by the divisions of Baylis Medical Canada
Act as the key contact and administer and support the various Occupational Health and Safety Committee throughout Canada.
Provide the various tools required for, but not limited to, inspections, meeting minutes, hazard assessment tools, legislative posters, etc.
Work with the various co-chairs to ensure that identified items are tracked, resolved, and escalated if required.
Co-ordinate at least quarterly, a Canada wide meeting with all committee co-chairs
Ensure all committees are compliant with the governing regulations and legislation.
Actively promote occupational health & safety through regular interaction with health and safety committee members
Conduct regular visits and casual inspections at sites throughout Canada to ensure safety is ingrained in the day-to-day activities of all staff including directors, managers, and temporary workers.
Act as the key point of contact for all incidents incurred in Baylis Medical Canada, e.g., motor vehicle accidents, near misses, property damage, accidents, critical accidents, etc.
Ensure that the corrective actions assigned to each incident are appropriate and implemented promptly
Adhere to and promote the adherence to all Corporate, Quality and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Other duties as required.
What you bring to the team :
Post-secondary education (diploma required, preferably University degree) in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in occupational health and safety or related area with knowledge of health and safety legislation and health and safety program elements
Knowledge of key elements of an HSE program including ISO 450001, 14001, and OSHAS 18001 standards.
Must be willing to seek accreditation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or a Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) within a reasonable amount of time
Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, collective agreements, and related legislation
Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and tact in resolving issues that require a high degree of discretion due to the sensitive / confidential information involved
Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communications - Public speaking skills as well as conflict resolution skills are an asset.
Experience in MS Office suite of programs
Highly motivated with excellent organization and prioritization skills
Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
