Duties / Accountabilities

  • Reviews specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs to determine trade specific quality requirements for each contract.
  • Develops new construction and repair projects’ Inspection and Test Plans for trade specific systems.
  • Ensures Inspection and Test plans are implemented in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Performs daily in-process quality inspections of trade specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors.
  • Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies. Documents all non-conformities and provides results to responsible supervisors and the QA / QC Department.
  • Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality.
  • Performs gap analyses of work instructions and SOPs for trade specific systems. Communicates results to respective area, and assists in modifying or adding work instructions and SOPs as required.
  • Maintains quality files for trade specific area.
  • Performs periodic audits of trade specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Education and Experience

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering - Required.
  • CWB Level II - Required.
  • 10 years relevant trade experience with 5 years experience in quality control or accuracy control specialized .
  • Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Detailed understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of trade specific systems.
  • Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures.
  • Proven ability to develop Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Strong technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques and their application to shipbuilding.
  • Technical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade specific systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Customer service focus.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and integrity.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word / Excel / PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Good judgement and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
