Job Introduction

Co-Ex-Tec, a division of Magna Exteriors, is hiring a Production Team Leader for our Concord location. If you have a strong manufacturing background with 3+ years automotive experience in leadership, and effective communication and organizational skills, we invite you to join our team.

The Team Leader has three primary responsibilities : to restore flow, identify problems, and to correct problems.

The role performs production duties and provides support in the form of direction, guidance, relief, training, problem resolution and encouragement to personnel within the work centre.

The Team Leader co-ordinates activities to ensure all standards are maintained and quality, costs, production / schedule and maintenance requirements are met.

Major Responsibilities

  • Conduct start of shift meeting to review previous day / shift results, review shift targets, communicate quality issues, discuss continuous improvements implemented and address concerns from the work centre team while encouraging improvement ideas suggestions.
  • Perform any operation within the work centres and train others how to follow standardized work.
  • Assist Set-up team in coordinating and performing routine changeovers and set-up activities according to production schedule and customer requirements.
  • Co-ordinate and perform scheduled first level maintenance activities.
  • Assist team members as necessary in minor stoppages and repairs including PLC resets. Advise process / set-up / tooling / maintenance and or Supervisor if additional assistance is required.
  • Verify through visual check, that all machines are set to the process parameters on the run sheets. Advise Supervisor of any continuing off standard conditions.
  • Verify through visual check, that correct material is in place to support production schedule. Advise Supervisor and or Materials Department of continuing shortages and or misplaced and or miss-labeled stock.
  • Ensure all first off, last off, and in process quality checks are performed using approved gauges, measuring tools, and are within specifications.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of off standard quality conditions. Ensure appropriate containment actions are in place.
  • Ensure issues are communicated to all shifts. Advise Supervisor of any continuing problems.

  • Maintain team communication board including but not limited to : all indicators, training matrix, improvement ideas, etc.
  • Advise Supervisor of shortfalls to production standards.

  • Assist with cross training of team members and the orientation / training of new team members.
  • Ensure Operators respect the Standardized work (Checking, Training, Coaching)
  • Work independently with a minimum of direct Supervision.
  • Provide reinforcement to the team in a manner that demonstrates Co Ex Tec’s commitment to our quality policy and the Employee’s Charter.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and support 5S improvement activities as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures in the workplace, including the customer and other Magna locations.
  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Manager.
  • Knowledge and Education

  • Must possess strong leadership skills and be able to relay instructions clearly
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • 3 - 5 years related experience, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, basic math and analytical abilities
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, an asset
  • Licensed forklift operator, an asset
  • Able to effectively operate presses and assembly machines
  • Able to lift heavy objects specific to operation
