The Compliance Department’s vision is to be a trusted partner and advisor to support Ontario Teachers’ business units and divisions to effectively manage risk, regulatory compliance and related best practices.
The Manager, Privacy Compliance, will provide day to day support to Ontario Teachers’ and its global privacy program through advice, technical expertise, mentorship and training, including, supporting the development and implementation of the privacy program, its objectives and practices related to and in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

What you'll do
Under the leadership of the Director, Privacy Compliance & Privacy Counsel, you'll support the privacy program governance framework
Promote consistent interpretation, application and compliance with policy and legislative and regulatory requirements
As the privacy subject matter expert and point of contact for Ontario Teachers’ divisions, promote the development and implementation of privacy best practices, aligned, where appropriate, with guidance from regulators and industry standards and best practices
Maintain current knowledge of the application of relevant international privacy legislation and regulatory guidance in anticipation of the impact on organizational and corporate practices globally
Implement strategic privacy projects, including policies, best practices and risk mitigation strategies across various divisions at Ontario Teachers’ and its global offices
Identify contentious issues and risks, monitor changes to best practices and legal requirements, brief staff and senior leaders and partner with relevant divisions and business units to identify practical, innovative and appropriate solutions and mitigating strategies
Conduct privacy assessments and provide advisory and consultation support to risk owners to develop appropriate mitigation plans.
Conduct post-implementation analysis and review to ensure recommendations have been implemented
Investigate privacy incidents and privacy breaches and support response plans throughout all phases of the incident response process, including privacy analysis, root cause analysis, development of appropriate mitigation strategies and drafting and / or reviewing associated communications and reporting
Lead and coordinate investigations and responses to privacy inquiries and privacy complaints and act as the primary point of contact;
log follow-up activities and resolutions
Review, propose and coordinate appropriate action plans to address findings of privacy audits and monitoring, in collaboration with respective business units
Develop and deliver privacy training initiatives to all staff and third parties where appropriate. Facilitate and promote privacy awareness activities to nurture a culture of privacy awareness within the organization
Assist in the development, documentation and periodic review of privacy policies, procedures, notice statements, consent forms, and various other templates
Collect, track, analyze, maintain and report data related to the implementation of strategies, and privacy program deliverables
Support the management of certain aspects of the data loss prevention program
What you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Management, Law or related field is required
Certified Information Privacy Professional for Canada (CIPP / C) designation is considered an asset
Six to ten years’ related work experience in a related organization such as a financial institution or pension plan is preferred
Experience working closely with all levels of management including senior leaders and executives
Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements relating to privacy and protection of personal information
Working knowledge of administering and operationalizing privacy requirements and obligations
Strong understanding of privacy risk management frameworks and ability to assess, rank and identify risks and recommend appropriate mitigating strategies and privacy controls
Outstanding analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills enhanced with excellent written and verbal communication skills to : assess privacy compliance for new programs or services;
coordinate impact assessments; investigate and prepare responses for privacy breach incidents; analyze and interpret legal and policy requirements
Effective and proven communicator with individuals at varying levels within an organization
Strong interpersonal skills with a sense of political acuity and the ability to present complex facts, information and explanations to various audiences
Strong collaboration and relationship management skills and demonstrated aptitude for building trusted relationships and reputation for sound judgement and pragmatism with internal clients and partners
Self-starter, multi-tasker able to lead contending priorities and multiple deadlines without compromising quality
Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication and presentation skills and crisis management skills
Ability to work under minimal supervision with occasional ambiguous situations
Strong computer skills, including intermediate MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
Advanced project management and organizational skills, including ability to build procedures documentation, such as standard operating procedures, process flow maps and RACIs
Relevant experience in a control function (e.g. : compliance, risk, internal audit, risk management)
