Design Manager- Dewatering - ONT

Our Client is part of a global dewatering company. We have won some of the largest dewatering contracts in Canada with Eglinton Crosstown LRT project.

While we have been focused soley on this project for the last three years, we have been expanding our reach and are looking for a design manager to build ana manage the dewatering tender / estimating department as we grow.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Carry out dewatering designs and cost estimates.

  • Identifying and following up new business leads.
  • Ensuring enquiries are appropriately logged and responded to including organising site and client visits.
  • To act as the key point of contact for clients throughout the design and tender process.
  • Make an assessment of geo-environmental site investigation reports and associated documents.
  • Prepare tenders, proposals and quotations. Select the appropriate methodology to be used, prepare design notes & calculations.
  • Prepare supporting costing for quotations.
  • Develop and implement strategies for following up quotations, maintaining contact with the client and tracking the progress of our proposals.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms and conditions, methodologies, attendances
  • Reviewing costs and sales performance and present data at management and sales meetings
  • Writing design statements and producing pumping test reports
  • Attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings to build knowledge and to promote the services of WJ
  • Manage, supervise and mentor Design Assistant and Design Engineers
  • The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence

    A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential. Minimum 5 years’ experience within the construction industry or has demonstrated sufficient skills and knowledge.

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • A relentless enthusiasm and tenacity to pursue commercial opportunities.
  • The ability to plan and organise own workload as well as that of the team
  • Understanding of business development and marketing strategies
  • Experience and confidence in managing others
  • Commercial awareness, ideally including knowledge of construction industry contracts
  • Beneficial to have a working knowledge of SEEP / W finite element modelling
  • Ability to use techniques and methods which can be used to improve marketing such as Photoshop, Google Ad words, understanding of websites and search engine optimization.
  • The role is predominately office based at our head office, but you will be expected to visit our clients sites for meetings and site walkovers within Ontario

    QUALIFICATIONS
