The Infection Control Partner ensures that there is an organized infection prevention and control program implemented in the care communities that promotes the safety of residents and team members and meeting regulatory requirements.


Coordination and ensuring implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control and Safety Practices to included :


  • Assists the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead in the care community to coordinate and implement infection control practices
  • Ensures surveillance and screening program in place for residents and team members
  • Reviews surveillance data and monitors for infection trends
  • Consults with the physicians / NP’s on laboratory results and trending of data to promote antibiotic stewardship
  • Outbreak Management

  • Conducts onsite visits to care communities monthly and during outbreaks to ensure that IPAC processes, compliance to PPE, donning and doffing and hand hygiene practices are in place
  • Assist the IPAC Lead in collaboration with Public Heath to manage outbreaks, ensure timely communication with Public Health, line list is updated daily and accuracy of data is communicated to internal and external partners.
  • Ensures daily outbreak meetings occur during an outbreak, documented minutes and follow up actions
  • Assist the IF Lead with post outbreak analysis and trending.
  • Mentoring

  • Provides education and coaching to team members on IPAC practices
  • Creates content to assist with educating residents, team members and visitors
  • Conduct the orientation / mentoring of new IPAC Leads within the care community
  • Assist with the coordination, orientation and placement of students on IPAC practices.
  • Completes just in time training during onsite visits to team members on safe IPAC practices
  • Quality Improvement

  • Contribute to quarterly IPAC quality report.
  • Reports on regional data trends and actions taken at regional meetings.
  • Verifies that at minimum quarterly Infection Control & Health and Safety Meetings occur, minutes are posted and action plans are developed related to infection control practices
  • Participates and ensures the coordination of annual flu clinics and immunization programs
  • Conducts Respiratory Fit Testing training and ensures compliance to training requirements.
  • Conducts quality improvement audits while on site to include but not limited : to hand hygiene, PPE, equipment cleaning and disinfection procedures
  • Audit compliance to cleaning and disinfectant procedures in nursing, dietary, programs, housekeeping, laundry, contracted services such as hairdresser, physiotherapy
  • Ensures the evaluation of the Infection Prevention and Control Program is done annually
  • Collaborates with the Infection Control Officer on enterprise wide research IPAC initiatives
  • Collaborate with environmental, nursing, resident experience, nutritional, dietary and environmental partners on implementing IPAC best practices at care communities.
  • Safety

  • Reviews monthly health and safety inspections for IPAC and safety practices i.e. needle stick injuries, PPE concerns, cleaning and disinfecting equipment concerns
  • Identifies and reports health and safety hazards for residents and team members
  • Works in accordance with the organization’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
  • University degree is required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in infection control is required
  • Previous experience in long-term care or health care sector is highly preferred
  • Solid understanding of adult learning principles and teaching methods to facilitate learning
  • Ability to organize, plan, and work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
