Our Ontario EDO (Engineering Design Organization) is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to tackle the role of Senior Structural Engineer to support our process-driven facilities projects .

Collaborating with the EDO Structural Team Leader and as a member of the EDO team, the successful candidate will chip in to and be responsible for all structural engineering aspects of multi-discipline projects in various markets and businesses.

With a strong unique background in structural design and delivery of Water / Wastewater Treatment, Linear Water, Water resources, Organics Processing, Bulk Storage and Warehouses, Waste Transfer, Renewable Natural Gas, Environmental, Transportation and Property and Buildings.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Assist in executing existing and new projects
  • Ensure accurate completion of project deliverables and be able to lead several projects at once and determine priorities, including sound judgement and decisiveness
  • Produce engineering drawings, details and specifications from conception to final design, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of steel and concrete structures.
  • Work in Design Bid Build and Design Build environments to advance design packages by providing valuable design solutions in conformance with operator requirements and client / end user specifications.
  • Supervise CAD staff, preparation of construction specifications tender and contract packages, and conduct site inspections of existing structures as well as those under construction
  • Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client / company standards
  • Lead technical discussions and efforts in Ontario (and possibly in North America) to improve structural design implementation delivery and efficiency through streamlining design tools, software, procedures and specifications.
  • Assist in preparation of effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities
  • Develop and implement QA / QC processes for project work
  • Qualifications, Skills & Competencies :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario
  • Minimum 10-15 years of diverse structural engineering experience with a focus on facility design type projects
  • Excellent understanding of structural systems and practical design experience of designing process-driven facilities, water / earth retaining structures, pre-engineered buildings and their foundations, shallow and deep foundation systems, to name a few.
  • Conversant with National building Code of Canada - NBCC and provincial building codes, CSA codes for design of steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures.
  • Ability to develop designs to stay in sync with project specific output
  • Ability to take ownership and accountability for completed work
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with project teams and within the organization
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong digital literacy including experience in structural analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, S-FRAME and ROBOT and MS Office
  • Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and validated time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The following skills would be considered an asset for this position :

  • Project management skills and budget and schedule controls
  • Knowledge of BIM 360 and REVIT
