Reporting to the Manager of Project Execution Risk and Operational Excellence Management System with a dotted line to the General Manager of Fluids and Tailings Management Program, you will drive consistency in the application of our risk management approach.
The key aspect of this opportunity is its independence from individual projects with a responsibility to provide objective risk assurance back to the business.
You will use your expertise to :
Establish and maintain program risk registers
Encourage collaboration with a variety of stakeholders to understand and drive for resolution on critical and complex program risks
Coordinate and provide strong risk facilitation and project risk management guidance to multiple tailings project teams
Lead program risk workshops ensuring that risks are clearly understood and communicated
Provide expert level risk management input to execution strategy planning for major tailings investments through the lens of strong program awareness
Committed to proactive, risk based decision-making throughout the project lifecycle and clarify conformance expectations for quality project risk management
Provide mentorship coaching and advice in project risk management

Must-haves (minimum requirements) :
15 years of industry experience with a minimum of three years of experience in risk management, and the ability to lead or advise on complex risk assessments
Creative and effective facilitation skills to guide all levels of project stakeholders to achieve key objectives
Exceptional analytical and critical thinker skills to help teams identify and assess risks from various sources of data
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, supported by active listening behaviors with a keen ability to influence and negotiate
Working knowledge of risk statement construction as well as qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods
Alignment with our of : safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing
Preference for :
A Professional Engineer Designation or an equivalent profession is preferred
An understanding of the interdependencies and impacts among oil sands mining, extraction and tailings operations
A results-oriented mindset with an exceptional eye for business and a deep understanding of the importance of accountability and focused execution in a schedule-driven environment
An understanding of technical aspects, regulatory requirements, and key business drivers related to Oil Sands bitumen production process and tailings management
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information :
You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
Estimated 30% travel time to site
