Reporting to Manager of Inpatient Surgical, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment.

You will provide care to a post surgical adult patient population with a broad spectrum of medical diagnoses, including Palliative care.

Requirements :

  • Current certification in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level
  • Current 2 years of surgical nursing experience
  • Minimum 1 year wound care experience preferred
  • Health assessment course, medication course and wound care course
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development and continuing education with emphasis placed on courses / conferences related to surgical nursing care in recent years
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current BPG in pressure ulcer prevention and wound / ostomy care
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various types of wounds, dressings and VAC dressing therapy
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
  • Ability to work well independently, perform the essential duties of the position and to exercise sound judgement
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to SHN s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient / staff population and community
