The Strategic Planning & Insights Team :
The Strategic Planning & Insights Team (the SP&I Team) is an innovative corporate strategy group at Cadillac Fairview. It was established to develop strategies to maximize the long-term value of Cadillac Fairview’s portfolio and to champion Cadillac Fairview’s strategy by insight.
The SP&I Team is very visible at the executive level of Cadillac Fairview and is integral to and involved in all aspects of its business.
The SP&I Team, which is part of the Investments Group, consists of three parts : (i) Strategic Planning & Business Insights which is responsible for performance insights and strategy around industry development;
ii) Strategic Asset Management, which is responsible for property level strategy; and (iii) Market and Customer Insights which is responsible for primary consumer & market research intelligence.
The SP&I Team is seeking a Sr. Analyst to join the Strategic Planning & Business Insights function.
This role is responsible for the development of analyses, insights and tools around retail and office performance including quarterly retail and office updates, benchmarking, and client risk assessment monitoring.
This position will lead all stages of analysis and research on industry and key clients by means of various internal and external information sources, forecasting, and interpretation of data sets and problems to provide high quality insights into our properties, current and potential tenants, and overall market trends.
The incumbent in this position will become the internal expert on performance and client risk and provide advanced professional expertise to drive senior management decisions.
The role will play a significant role in the Strategic Planning & Business Insights (SP&BI) group by taking internal and external sales, market, consumer, and secondary data sources and transforming it into compelling analyses, reports and insights that will add real value to Cadillac Fairview and our retail partners.
The primary focus of this role will be on monitoring performance of retail and office assets and related tenant risk providing the tools for senior management to make informed and strategic choices.
What you will deliver :
Develop and communicate systematic and ad-hoc tenant, property, portfolio performance reports and analyses based on internal and external information to support senior management’s understanding of the current and future state of the business and industry, and enable decision-making on key assets or clients.
Reports produced include the Quarterly, Holiday and other Seasonal Analysis in conjunction with input & insights from other SP&BI members.
Manage and communicate the complex analyses and reporting of financial and operational data and insights for comprehensive studies on key clients (eg.
retail / office tenants, etc.) and category reviews. Key emphasis is in providing concrete information and actionable insight through the development and preparation of insightful research reports, or presentations for executive review.
Provide timely analysis and interpretation of research on key clients (eg. retail / office tenants, etc.) to senior management with a focus on risk, through solid research methodology (e.
g. desk research, analyst calls, interviews, etc.)
Enhance and promote the current standardized retailer risk exposure program to drive the assessment of key retailers and flag retailers to watch by collaborating with various departments and senior decision makers in leasing, finance, and operations.
This may include the management of a risk alert dashboard, development of new tools or methodologies, and executing retailer assessment reports.
Use data and performance indicators to help solve business problems and opportunities with potential and existing tenants assessing best fit to Cadillac Fairview properties, target groups and leasing / tenant relations objectives.
Proactively research trends and assesses impact on risk and the opportunity to the Company. Work with the rest of the Strategic Planning & Business Insights team in aggregating and analyzing additional operational, financial, consumer, market and retail research to package and communicate insights to internal stakeholders.
Assist other departments including leasing, investments, operations and development on special projects or other strategic analysis / initiatives to help drive additional insights about potential or existing tenants, the retail and office industry, or the competitors.
Key point of contact for external third party retail research data providers on ad hoc custom research requests.
Develop and maintain tenant risk profiles through the consolidation, analysis and reporting of internal data, and other external sources such as Bloomberg, company investor calls, etc..
Provide training and promote knowledge sharing to peers with respect to innovative analytical and research techniques.

What you need to succeed :
Undergraduate or post-graduate education in Commerce, Business, Finance, Statistics, Real Estate or related field
Commercial and / or Retail Real Estate industry intelligence preferred
A relevant professional designation is beneficial (e.g. MBA, CFA, CA) or equivalent work experience.
5-7 years’ demonstrated experience in financial analysis, risk assessment, preferably in the real estate context
Experience with financial statement analysis, working with detailed financial data, analyzing company performance, market fluctuations, etc.
and ability to communicate these complex concepts in a simple manner.
Experience in working with databases, statistics, primary and / or secondary datasets
Previous experience in either financial planning and analysis or sales reporting and analysis
Expert in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint
Expert in data manipulation and visualization experience preferably with Tableau, Power BI, or others
Experience with various advanced news and information providers such as Bloomberg, Reuters, etc.
Experience with various ERP, Supply Chain, and / or Commerce systems
Require an in depth understanding of liquidity, asset allocation strategies, and various financial and accounting management strategies
Bilingual an asset
