While we try to be as flexible as possible and allow our team to work various hours in various locations, some positions do require daily, onsite work at our Sarnia facility.

Position

Bringing new technologies into existence is hard work, and nobody knows that better than the Pilot Operations Team. The Pilot Shift Lead is an integral part of the group, managing day-to-day pilot operations through team coordination while ensuring effective communication and delegation.

This position provides the opportunity for you to directly shape the department you are part of. Hire and train your staff and facilitate department improvement through your own creativity.

You will be responsible for :

  • Autonomous lead for safe execution & documentation of planned pilot-scale scientific experiments
  • Autonomous maintaining of pilot facilities
  • Autonomous shift hand-off
  • Autonomous delegation of daily duties
  • Fostering company culture within the pilot department
  • Creation and implementation of auditing systems
  • Operator recruiting, hiring, and training efforts
  • Employee career development
  • Facilitating departmental development (creation / improvement of processes & procedures)
  • Coordinating with Operations Manager for necessary maintenance / engineering support
  • Supporting the management of reagent / supplies inventory & procurement
  • Gap identification and solution proposal
  • Creation / modification of SOP’s & batch cards
  • Fundamental understanding & application of scientific first principles
  • Training of new and current employees
  • Development, execution, & documentation of safety drills and safety audits.
  • Participation in hazard analyses
  • You :

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts safely in a chemical production environment
  • Strict adherence to SOP’s and other written procedures (including PPE requirements)
  • Comfort wearing PPE (steel toe boots, APR, FR uniform, safety glasses / goggles, Tyvek suit) for extended periods of time
  • Enjoys teaching and assuming mentorship / leadership roles
  • Inquisitive, lifelong learner
  • Willingness to show vulnerability and admit mistakes
  • Critical thinking and good judgment to maintain a safe working environment
  • Observant and capable of discerning specific information valuable to report
  • Exercise good chemical hygiene
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Competent in algebra level mathematics
  • Mechanically inclined

  • Completed college coursework in science or chemical manufacturing-related field or has at least 2-3 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Previous management experience (2-5) people
  • Previous experience with employee and departmental development
  • Chemical handling experience (ability to discern warning on chemical labels and match PPE required for handling)
  • Scientific or chemical manufacturing background
  • Mechanically inclined (i.e. troubleshooting, handling of tools, can perform regular maintenance)
  • Experience with high-pressure high-temperature equipment is a plus
