Job Description

The Corporate Director, General Support Services, is accountable for providing and overseeing senior leadership, strategic planning, direction and performance excellence for environmental services, laundry and food services across Island Health (VIHA).

The position is responsible and accountable for achieving improvements in efficiencies and services through continuous improvement, standardization and service innovation.

Develops strong collaborative partnerships with members of the senior executive teams, other provincial health authority executives, regional districts, private sector partners and government agencies.

The Corporate Director provides leadership and direction in the planning, implementation, and administration of major region-wide service contracts for Island Health, including service and quality monitoring and vendor performance issues.

Working within the scope of the VIHA Strategic Plan, provides operational support services that balance client needs and financial imperatives.

The Corporate Director is accountable for providing leadership and direction in the administration of quality measurement and evaluation of vendor performance for VIHA provided and externally contracted services.

The Corporate Director is the VIHA liaison for the development and modifications of service level agreements; resolves issues arising from the contracted services and ensures contractual obligations are provided.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Business Administration or related field, certification in a recognized food or environmental services management program, completion of courses in health care management and ten (10) years' recent experience in service and contract management in health facilities.

Prior management experience in both the public and private sectors is preferred.

Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of support services operations within a multi-site healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of contract management and working experience creating strategic and vested alliances with private sector partners that are mutually beneficial to all parties.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all levels of management, contractor senior representatives and VIHA senior management.
  • Ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and superior dispute resolution skills. Proven ability to facilitate complex negotiations and persuade others.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines. Proven initiative, judgement and decision making capabilities;
  • demonstrated ability to lead, plan, manage, organize and problem solve.

  • Proven project management expertise leading large multi-disciplinary projects with the ability to identify and mitigate operational project risk and develop long range plans that align with corporate strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated skill to work effectively with a high degree of independence.
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between multiple sites.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
