Reporting to the Field Manager in the region, the Civil Superintendent will be responsible for construction of civil infrastructure projects including roadways, bridges, underground utilities, and pump stations.

You will play a significant role in setting high expectations amongst your team with regards to safety, quality, budget, and schedule towards the successful execution of various civil infrastructure projects.

This position is based in the Lower Mainland with current projects in the Fraser Valley, Langley, Vancouver and Richmond area.

Site Supervision

Implementation of health, safety and environmental procedures on site in accordance with legislation and company policy to ensure the safety of all workers and protection of the public.

Effectively managing own workforce, equipment, materials, and trade contractors to attain targeted goals.

Ensure cost control measures are being followed to meet project budgets.

Coordinating of personnel and equipment resources.

Preconstruction activities such as schedule development, construction sequencing and value engineering.

Working closely with the project manager, project coordinator, owner, consultants, trade contractor’s inspectors and regulatory agencies to prepare and execute project plans.

Achieving project milestones by developing look-ahead schedules and identifying deliverables for own forces and trade contractors.

Implementing corrective action where necessary to catch up and meet key milestone dates.

Proactively identifying, addressing and resolving issues and problems as or before they occur.

Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, consultants and sub-trades with a focus on mutual trust and respect.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management or other relevant field

10 years’ of hands on experience in the capacity of site superintendent or foreman

Demonstrable record of success on projects up to $20 million+ with effective decision making capabilities

Experience should include direct site management of utility work, earthworks, site service packages, structural concrete work, and road construction works

Strong familiarity with contract administration, understanding blueprints, architectural and engineering standards and building practices, including building codes

Excellent budgeting, costing and scheduling skills

Strong leadership skills with experience managing all disciplines and sub-trades (including both employees and external contractors)

Strong computer skills, MS Office

Evidence of exceptional leadership skills and ability to influence and work within informal teams

Ability to inspire trust in difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters that affect them

Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships

Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges

Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them

Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills

Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast paced environment

Superior written and verbal communication skills
