We are a multi service organization which provides a broad range of services including : 24 Child Care Centres, 32 Before and After Care programs, 204 Licensed Home Child Cares, 6 Early ON programs, 2 Homework Plus programs, and Special Needs Resourcing for children and their families living in the Greater Toronto Area.
Job Purpose :
The position reports to the Manager and is integral to the day-to-day operations of the accounting department up to and including budgeting, audit and funder reporting.
The position is responsible for the coordination and preparation of monthly financial statements.
Additionally, the position will assist in the preparation and processing of payroll in a unionized and non-unionized environment 500 plus (contract, permanent and casual) employees and also complete activities related to pension / benefit, union dues, EHT and monthly and year end reconciliations and reporting.
Job Duties :
Accounting and Reporting
Actively participates in the financial operation of the Agency
Receives, analyses and record incoming revenue from all sources
Responsible for Agency’s Accounts Receivable portfolio including external liaisons and development of collections reports
Coordinates and analyses financial information from General Accountants
Reviews and posts the monthly Bank Reconciliation
Maintains and reconciles Balance Sheet on a monthly basis
Performs sub-ledger reconciliation monthly
Assists with the preparation of the annual agency budget
Assists the Finance Manager and Program Manager with various stakeholders’ budget submissions.
Reviews, analyses and records funding contracts guidelines and maintains reporting schedules.
Prepares financial reports and reconciliation to Funders as required
Prepares and reviews the internal monthly financial statements with the Finance Manager
Prepare annual and semi-annual Grants utilization and reconciliation reports for regional Municipalities.
Payroll
Assists in preparation and processing of semi-monthly and casual payroll.
Performs calculations related to retroactive pay and annual step increases.
Acts as a backup for the Senior Payroll Specialist.
Prepares off cycle pay runs for pay adjustments and / or ROEs.
Generates semi-monthly journal entries and prepares payroll accrual entries for month end.
Facilitates all internal and external audit requirements.
Processes various payroll-related remittances such as union dues, EHT, Group benefits and pension.
Reconcile semi-monthly CRA and monthly EHT remittances. Maintain all Payroll tax accounts in good standing.
Other payroll-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required
Completion of Post-secondary education in Accounting.
CPA designation or enrollment in CPA, CMA, CA program(s).
Designation or advanced enrollment in the PCP program through Canadian Payroll Association.
3-4 years of financial accounting, auditing, budgeting and payroll experience.
In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, concepts and best practices
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, macros, lookup functions) SAGE, Microsoft Dynamics 365 / Business Central, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Practical experience with third party payroll systems (Ceridian Dayforce payroll experience is preferred).
Current working knowledge of payroll legislation / regulations and benefit administration practices.
Previous experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements strongly desired.
Working in a not-for-profit sector is preferred
