Our Fidelity / Crime Division underwrites policies throughout Canada for mercantile businesses and financial institutions.
Standard fidelity and crime products include employee dishonesty, forgery, theft and computer fraud. Additional products offered by the division include Fine Art and Kidnap, Ransom & Extortion coverage.
The Fidelity / Crime Division is searching for an Underwriter / Senior Underwriter for our office located in Toronto. The role of the underwriter is to underwrite, market and develop profitable Fidelity / Crime business in accordance with Company objectives and policies.
We will rely on your ability to relate to people easily in order to develop effective customer partnerships.
Has responsibility risk selection / rejection, pricing, retention, growth and profitability within scope of authority and per divisional objectives.
Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
Maintains a high level of customer service.
High level of organizational skills, ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Displays a professional demeanor and from a perspective that demonstrates long-term mutual commitment to the success of our customers.
Receives and analyzes submissions and determines terms to offer (policy limits, deductibles, coverage options and conditions, etc.).
Prices business in accordance with company guidelines.
Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines.
Orders and analyzes miscellaneous business reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, including credit checks, bank agreements, financial statements and underwriting surveys.
Enters, maintains and monitors accounts using underwriting, analysis and desktop systems.
Prepares effective internal and external communications on underwriting issues.
Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers / coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business.
Visits producers and principals in order to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of divisional objectives.
Interprets, explains and markets products and services.
Visits producers / insureds in order to retain existing accounts, survey exposures, build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of divisional objectives.
Applies underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of related underwriting experience.
Must be open to travel, including overnight and airline travel.
Bilingual English and French language skills would be an asset.
