ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be working as part of the research and development team, focusing on the evolution of Geospatial’s topographic and bathymetric LiDAR systems.
Please note we are very flexible with working location, proximity to one of our offices in Ontario, New Brunswick or the Netherlands is an asset.
Remote work options will also be considered.
Your responsibilities will include :
Conducting advanced, experimental, and analytical research into the use of sensors and data fusion techniques, leveraging passive imaging devices and topographic and bathymetric laser technologies for precision mapping applications.
Research, explore and develop novel signal processing techniques to create novel data products, which help drive our understanding of the environmental characteristics of coastal waters and seafloor topography.
Collaborate with our team of Computer Vision / Machine Learning / AI Research Scientists to develop novel algorithms across all aspects of coastal mapping.
Effectively communicate with the engineering team, product management and the sales / marketing team at appropriate technical levels to communicate product advancements and obtain market intelligence.
Define, execute and report progress on a product roadmap that responds to business needs defined by various internal and external stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance for all internal and external stakeholders during data survey projects, including mission planning, calibration, data quality control and data delivery.
Field testing to garner valuable applied information to support development of the next generation of LiDAR systems.
Periodically attending and presenting at technical conferences, highlighting research findings and advancements.
Collaborate with other Teledyne Research Scientists across organizational and product boundaries to advance our research and technology using novel approaches and technology combinations.
Experience, qualifications and interests :
Degree in Earth Sciences or Engineering, MSc or PhD preferred
3+ years experience in signal processing, analytics and data fusion with complex opto-mechanical systems
Familiarity with environmental / ocean mapping concepts and technology
Coding or scripting experience (C / C++, Python, Matlab, etc.)
Interest and proven ability to solve complex problems
Experience in geospatial industry is preferred
Able to effectively break down complex problems and, and propose and investigate solutions
Enthusiasm for learning new skills / products / technology
Able to work independently
Able and enthusiastic about teaching others about LiDAR and associated technology
Excellent communication skills, including with diverse multicultural groups spanning different education / work backgrounds and living in different countries.
