GHD's Environmental Assessment and Approvals Group is based out of the Greater Toronto Area, with team members in offices across North America and focuses on Environmental Assessments, stakeholder engagement and environmental permits and approvals.

This position will be based in one of our Western Canada office locations (Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton), with project work in Western Canada primarily and across Canada, as required.

We are looking for a well-rounded, enthusiastic, well-organized individual with previous experience on projects involving multi-

disciplinary teams involved in Environmental Impact Assessments, Waste Management planning and Stakeholder Consultation.

Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Senior Project Coordinator of the Environmental Assessment and Approvals Group, the successful candidate will complete tasks including the following :

  • Conducting policy research
  • Drafting letters and Notices for public circulation and coordinating mail out of correspondence
  • Drafting response letters to review agencies
  • Leading proposal writing for new projects
  • Assisting project teams with Approval and Permit applications
  • Completing portions of impact assessments for project teams
  • Leading report compilation and drafting text for summary documents
  • Assisting project teams in completing Solid Waste Master Plans
  • Helping with coordination of Open Houses for public consultation
  • Creation of PowerPoint presentations for public meetings
  • Reviewing sub-consultants reports and cross-referencing to policy and legislation guidelines
  • Attending meetings as required and preparing meeting minutes or reports
  • Skills, Competencies and Qualifications :

  • A post-secondary education in environmental planning, environmental policy, waste management planning, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • 5 to 10 years project experience in a variety of sectors, with an emphsis on waste management (also, municipal infrastructure, transportation, energy)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with people (staff and clients) and a demeanor that reflects genuine interest and ability to assess a situation and consider what people will be interested in / concerned with is required.
  • Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project Powerpoint)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Provincial and Federal Environmental Assessment legislation
  • Experience working with First Nations (specifically in the waste sector) would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
