Job summary :

The Project Technical Support & Controls Engineer is a position being created within SNC-Lavalin’s Clean Power team. The role will be under the day to day supervision of the Project Manager (PM) for which the candidate will work on, and functionally report to the Manager Project Services, Montreal Team.

In this varied support role, the candidate will ensure support for the below listed items.

Technical Coordination :

  • Coordination of engineering team discipline inputs for design specific work, within deliverables;
  • Coordination of general and technical specification packages and reports, under supervision;
  • Ensure that all required deadlines, both internal and external, are satisfied proactively;
  • Preparation and follow-up of activities as determined by the PM, on specific reports.
  • Project Controls Specific :

  • Assist the Project Controls (PC) team with invoicing and budgeting activities;
  • Support for project planning efforts / activities with respect to deliverable milestones, including resource forecasting and leveling;
  • Support for project cost forecasting and monthly cash-flow analysis;
  • Assist in the preparation of the Project Monthly Report , including variances, progress, trends and forecasts;
  • Coordinate with discipline lead engineers for the preparation on the monthly report.
  • Contract Administration :

  • Review on a regular basis progress reports received from site Contractors and other suppliers;
  • Identify gaps and potential problems with contractor works advancement, propose solutions;
  • Organize, coordinate and manage reception and responses to site contractor queries;
  • Ensure coordination of project team responses in a timely manner to the site, including tracking;
  • Collaborate with procurement teams for schedule milestones and response requirements;
  • Support for bid analysis and preparation of bid comparisons, under supervision;
  • Change management tracking of contractors working at various sites.
  • Qualifications :

    The ideal candidate will have the following background :

  • University degree in one of the following : civil / structural, mechanical, geotechnical or hydraulics.
  • Ideally 1-3 years of experience as an engineers, cost controller or related functions;
  • Candidates with no work experience would also be considered;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and French;
  • Professional and dynamic individual, able to shift attention / focus on rapidly changing objectives;
  • A detail oriented individual, proactive worker, able to self-organize and act as a team player;
  • Able to identify errors, problems, or non-standard situations and suggest solutions / alternatives;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project is considered a benefit;
  • Knowledge of Oracle Financial reporting systems is considered a benefit.
