Why this role is important?

Reporting to the Vice-President of Payor Partnerships and Plan Sponsor Innovation, the Senior Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Healthwatch drug plan, specialty preferred pharmacy network, Medical Cannabis insurer programs and pharmacy services.

This role requires a unique combination of product development, product management, clinical oversight, alliance management and contract negotiation along with development of the broader product and related pharmacy service roadmap.

In addition, the role will involve working closely with our business development teams to provide product expertise and to support key client interactions.

What You'll Do :

Product Management & Development

  • The product owner of the Healthwatch drug plan, Specialty Preferred Pharmacy Networks and Medical Cannabis insurer programs
  • Build and execute on the longer-term product roadmap for the above portfolio, including clinical product enhancements, related pharmacy services and additional business and partnership opportunities
  • Drive thought leadership on the Drug Solutions portfolio best practices through on-going market, competitive and clinical research
  • Work collaboratively with health insurance industry partners to ensure seamless execution for clients
  • Manage cross-functional teams in the pharmacy department to ensure product needs and considerations are met
  • HealthWatch Drug Plan

  • Lead the decision-making process with respect to the role and listing status of treatments on the drug plan, considering all available evidence
  • Facilitate internal / external committee meetings to drive decision-making and alignment to key principles
  • Oversee the budget for internal and external clinical resources; direct and optimize activities to drive results with efficiency
  • Responsible for the formulary content management system and associated drug search tool
  • Maintain the integrity of the drug plan by conducting and / or overseeing periodic category, class and / or therapy reviews and audits
  • Preferred Pharmacy Networks & Medical Cannabis Programs

  • Accountable for the P&L of the SDM / LCL Specialty PPNs, Legacy Loblaw PPN & Medical Cannabis Programs
  • Lead contract negotiations with key stakeholders (ie. Insurance Carriers, Case Managers, Benefits Advisors) to optimize our participation in the networks.
  • Responsible to ensure PPN is operating smoothly in partnership with our Operations teams and lead issue resolution with partners for escalations that can’t be managed internal teams
  • Manage Quarterly Business Review process, agenda on specialty PPNs
  • Lead identification, business casing and RFP responses for new network oriented business opportunities
  • Lead EHS interactions with SHN re : Specialty PPNs and PSP strategy
  • Manage relationship with Benefits Advisors / Brokers for existing Student Programs and ensure student programs are constructed in such a way that they are accretive to SDM / LCL
  • Business Development Support

  • Support Business Development with subject matter expertise on the Healthwatch drug plan
  • Identify new partnership opportunities to grow SDM’s Specialty Pharmacy Network and Medical Cannabis Insurer programs.
  • Attend client meetings to support Business Development in key parts of the sales cycle
  • Be a thought leader in drug plan management and participate at key external meetings and events (i.e. industry conferences, panels, etc.)
  • What You'll Need :

  • Degree in pharmacy, pharmacology, health economics or related field
  • Knowledge of drug plan management and the Canadian drug market strongly preferred
  • Product / program / project management experience
  • Demonstrated interest in business and / or an MBA considered an asset
  • Good clinical and business judgment, with aptitude for thoroughly supporting and explaining decisions
  • Ability to understand the needs of clients and value drivers to effectively execute on the product roadmap
  • Quick learner, comfortable with ambiguity and an environment that’s constantly breaking new ground
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to succinctly explain complex concepts to varying audiences
  • Demonstrated client relationship management and capacity to lead internal and external meetings
  • Ability to collaborate and partner cross-functionally among multiple teams
  • Highly organized; takes ownership to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Demonstrated skills using the Microsoft suite of products
  • 3+ years of successful contract negotiation experience, strategy, and P&L Management
  • Proven relationship management (both internal and external) skills
  • Demonstrated financial / analytical acumen, including business case development
  • Ability to find new win-win solutions / opportunities in complex situations where others cannot
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions at all levels of the organization
  • Quick learner : ability to rapidly assimilate new concepts and idea, and willingness to learn
  • Self-starter : demonstrated initiative and ability to prioritize
  • Strong professional presence, planning and organizational skills
  • Delivers results in a high-pressure environment; able to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines
  • Pharmacy programs experience / health benefits industry knowledge a strong asset
  • Experience with pharmacy systems and data a strong asset
