Covia is looking for a dynamic Plant Superintendent who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its St. Canut, QC location.

As a Plant Superintendent, you will administer and control all plant operating and shipping activities in a safe, environmentally responsible, and cost-

effective manner, with emphasis on Continuous Improvement.

  • Plan and direct daily production and shipping systems through the production and shipping supervisors. Ensure that all departments have a plan and the resources they require to complete the plan on time and on budget.
  • Using the philosophy and techniques of continuous improvement to, improve quality, eliminate waste, decrease costs, and improve productivity’s and other efficiencies.

  • Manage, co-ordinate work and ensure capital expenditure and continuous improvement projects are scheduled and completed in conformance with local regulations and company policies without affecting shipments.
  • Recommend changes in standards, work methods, equipment, and process modifications to improve performance, productivity, and profitability.

  • Provide safety leadership by participating in the Covia safety program, through coaching of supervisors and through direct interaction with hourly personnel.
  • Reinforce safe behaviours and promote a high level of housekeeping, ergonomic initiatives, and near hit reporting. Be proactive in the approach to investigate all safety incidents, root cause analysis and improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure all activities at the plant comply with local environmental regulations. Anticipate the likely impact on the environment that ongoing operations could have and act in accordance with maximizing sustainable operations.
  • Control the Quality Assurance systems to ensure that they are sufficient to provide customers with product within all required specifications.
  • Work to develop a system that predicts product quality before any concerns manifest.

  • Maintain positive relationships as an agent of change and leader. Work as an effective member of the salary management team and as a leader to the hourly workforce.
  • Promote all change initiatives as prescribed by Plant Management.

  • Mining, Mineral Process Engineering degree or equivalent required
  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing, energy or mining environment
  • Advanced excel skills, process analysis
  • French / English bilingual preferred
  • Safety focused leadership, teamwork and details oriented
