Design and Pattern Developer - Equipment

North Vancouver, BC, CanadaHead Office DesignFull-timeAs a Design and Pattern Developer Equipment, you build commercially resolved product solutions and patterns in line with the original intent and vision of the product design.

You are a passionate builder of product, and you ensure seamless execution from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities :

  • You execute on-time, commercially resolved product solutions that meet design intent
  • You collaborate with Designers, Materials Developers and Engineering to solve Proof-of-Concept materials, construction and tooling technology projects
  • You collaborate with Design and Materials to assess materials suitability for construction and end-use through testing, mock ups, concepts and sample building
  • You ensure Design-for-Manufacturing’ construction solutions that are consistent with factory processes
  • You sew mock ups and prototypes as required
  • You collaborate with Designers and Product Developers to establish and document product construction standards and illustrated technical specifications for all product (documentation, mock ups, samples, pictures, video, illustrations, etc., as required)
  • You create, maintain and deliver production-ready patterns and samples for commercialization
  • You interpret design intent, create prototype, sample, and production patterns, ensuring that methods and documentation are consistent with known factory methods and processes
  • You develop and maintain standard practices, fit and construction methods
  • You maintain accurate pattern lists, templates and libraries, ensuring changes are clearly communicated to Product Developers, Graders and Marker Makers when required
  • You acquire and maintain a high level of hardgoods pattern making, construction knowledge, machine mastery and skilled execution
  • You verify patterns versus specs and samples and report all problems for resolution
  • You appropriately test and meet quality standards for production processes of any new press operations, sewing techniques or raw materials
  • You develop strong cross functional rapport with a shared understanding of plans and priorities
  • Additional experience, education and / or skills (required) :

  • You have a degree or diploma in Apparel Design, Industrial Design or Textile Engineering
  • You have 5+ years of hands-on experience developing technical equipment products in the outdoor industry, including an understanding of advanced softgoods and hardgoods manufacturing and tooling
  • You enjoy the challenge of taking incomplete R&D concepts to production level completeness
  • You enjoy mastering machines, processes, pattern making and hands-on construction
  • You have a keen interest in technical equipment and apparel and its application to a variety of environments
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
