This position presents the opportunity to work on large, complex, and challenging projects for a leading environmental and civil consulting firm with an expanding presence in Canada.

The selected candidate will help expand our presence and establish our assessment and remediation capabilities in the Alberta and Western Canada markets.

Typical business-development activities will include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, and sharing Barr’s capabilities with existing and potential clients.

  • Project work may include managing multidiscipline teams; preparing technical work plans and cost estimates for investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion;
  • interpreting data; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; preparing technical reports; and coordinating site remediation activities.

    Additionally, the selected candidate will be leading client and regulatory negotiations, mentoring junior staff and will be responsible for financial performance on projects.

    This position is located in Barr’s Calgary office, but fulfillment of its responsibilities will require periodic travel within Canada and to the United States.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or geology
  • Ten or more years of relevant work experience
  • Technical knowledge of the federal and provincial environmental regulations and programs related to environmental and waste regulations, site remediation and cleanup technologies
  • Demonstrated client-relationship and business development skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading multidiscipline teams
  • Demonstrated project management and organization skills
  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and / or client needs
  • Willingness to travel for business development purposes
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada and the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering, environmental science, or geology
  • Fifteen or more years of relevant work experience
  • If applicable to the degree, professionally certified in Alberta (e.g., P. Eng., P. Geol.)
  • Established network with area clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
