Position Summary

We have exciting job opportunities for experienced Mental Health & Substance Use Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join our Mental Health team.

Opportunities may exist within various worksites located within the Interior Health South Okanagan geographical area (WORKSITE LOCATIONS : PENTICTON / OLIVER / OSOYOOS / KEREMEOS AND PRINCETON) :

Mental health centres provide many services including adult community support, adult short-term assessment and treatment, community residential programs, geriatric programs, crisis intervention, day and outpatient programs, addictions counselling, concurrent disorders services, group therapy, peer support, and after-hours mental health support.

1) MENTAL HEALTH NURSE ACSS TEAM

As the MHSU Nurse, you will ensure that persons with serious severe and persistent mental health problems and / or problematic substance use who may or may not be in crisis have access to timely, responsive, evidence-

based treatment. You will provide assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life.

Functioning as the primary clinician, you will utilize a variety of specialized treatment modalities / therapies for individuals, groups of clients and / or their families.

Shifts of work are of a casual nature and may be scheduled Monday to Friday, 08 : 00 to 16 : 30.

To qualify :

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Graduation from an approved school of nursing. Two years’ recent related MHSU experience in the assigned clinical area(s) (such as Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT), Adult Community Support Services (ACSS), Urgent Response, Elderly Services, Alcohol & Drug, Developmental Disability Mental Health Services (DDMHS), etc.

or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

2) MENTAL HEALTH NURSE MHSU Seniors Team

The Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse Seniors Mental Health will provide a broad case management function and care for seniors that have a mental health and substance issues.

The nurse is involved in monitoring the client, assessing their mental status, putting appropriate resources and supports in place, working with the family and coordinating care.

The nurse works with the GP, psychiatrist and team of support workers linking in with home support services or residential care as appropriate.

Further duties may include assisting the client with attending their housing, the management of their finances and home as well as insuring they’re getting adequate nutrition and managing their medications.

Shifts of work are Monday to Friday 08 : 00 to 16 : 30.

To qualify :

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related MHSU experience in the assigned clinical area(s) of Seniors’ Mental Health or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

3) MENTAL HEALTH NURSE Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT)

This position will cover shifts within the community crisis response team (CCRT). This casual employee will need to have experience providing brief mental health and substance use assessments of clients in crisis, and work in a variety of settings such as office based, community based and in hospital.

We are seeking candidates with flexibility, critical thinking skills and an ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team.

4) Rural & Remote Adult Mental Health & Substance Use

The Rural and Remote Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Nurse is self-directed, independent, and has good work-life balance.

This is a challenging but rewarding position requiring you to work with people who have Mental Health and / or Substance Use concerns.

If you are strong in your intake and assessment skills and can provide care for clients with, for example, depression, anxiety, suicidal idealization and substance use, this is the job for you.

To qualify :

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two (2) years’ recent related experience in a mental health and substance use environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

Many of our opportunities are Casual in nature. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from Zero to 37.

  • 5 hours per week. Casual employment includes : short-notice, on-call availability; workload coverage during a temporary absence;
  • and / or providing relief coverage in a specific position.
