What is the opportunity?

A unique role that while initially you would focus on the Director of International Insurance responsibilities you would also have the opportunity to work with other portfolios within Group Risk Management at the Director level.

As Director of International Insurance you will be responsible for the support and enabled success of the International Insurance Business (IIB) through timely and effective measurement of the actuarial obligations of the IIB and identification, measurement, reporting and mitigation of risks.

What will you do?

  • The incumbent will be accountable for the timely, sound, reliable, appropriate and transparent valuation of Royal Bank of Canada Insurance Company Ltd.
  • RBCICL) liabilities (including the Annuity and the Other Life Retrocession portfolios).

  • Lead experience studies, stress testing and earnings by source analysis for the Other Life retro portfolio.
  • Enable the IIB to avoid significant risk events through the identification, measurement, reporting and mitigation of risks.
  • Support the annual production of the Appointed Actuary’s Report.
  • Generate and implement ideas to more efficiently produce and understand financial results.
  • Report and consult on financial matters with senior leadership.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements, including new technology tools.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with Operational areas.
  • Develop and mentor staff.
  • Must Have

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries
  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience within the life insurance industry
  • Leadership skills to engage team and communication skills to drive action
  • Strong analytical and technical skills to build the foundation for carrying out accountabilities
  • Knowledge of life insurance standards of practice, reserving principles, insurance accounting, product design and administration, pricing framework, capital regime, and regulatory compliance guidelines.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, deal with ambiguity and work under pressure
