Examples of Duties
Formerly Convention Center Sales Manager) Under the direction of the Director of Public Works or his / her designee, is responsible for the overall operation of the Public Auditorium.
Sets up and schedules shows and events and negotiates contracts in conjunction with the Director's Office and acts as a liaison with Positively Cleveland / Sports Commission.
Determines client's needs, prepares proposals, and conducts site inspections. TYPICAL TASKS - Schedules and directs the use of the Public Auditorium for conventions, shows, lectures, and other specific events.
Develops operating policies for the facility and resolves problems arising in connection with its administration / operation.
Plans the work of the Public Auditorium staff in the care, maintenance, and operation of the building and its facilities.
Provides overall direction and / or arrangements for details of events such as exhibit installation / removal and requesting extra employees as needed.
Provides direction for operations of concessions in the Public Auditorium. Organizes advertising and tourist promotional programs.
Develops reports of the activities of the Public Auditorium. Performs related work as required.
A High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Relations, Hospitality, Marketing, or related field from a four-year accredited college or university is required.
Four years of full time paid progressive sales experience within the hospitality, meeting, or events industry is required.
Substitution : Two years of related full time paid experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking) Excellent communication, organization and leadership skills are preferred.
A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) certification is a plus.
TYPICAL TASKS :
Manage all elements of event planning, while scheduling and directing the use of the Public Auditorium for conventions, shows, lectures, and other specific events.
Determine client's needs and meet with them regularly, prepare proposals, identify event logistics, negotiate contracts, often conduct tours of the facility and site inspections.
Provide accurate and timely information to clients, vendors, and meeting planners. Continuously focus on improving customer satisfaction to create customer loyalty and deliver a positive event experience.
Cultivate and engage organizations in hospitality and event planning industries, and pursue new market opportunities to increase event sales.
Determine and schedule staffing needs for every event. Lead event team by assigning duties, coordinating event logistics, proactively communicating event information, and setting clear expectations for event delivery.
Plan the work of the Public Auditorium staff in preparation for events. Develop operating policies for the facility and resolve problems arising in connection with event administration / operation.
Provide overall direction and / or arrangements for details of room set up / take down and exhibit installation / removal.
Provide direction for operations of concessions in the Public Auditorium.
Work collaboratively in scheduling event calendar. Prepare detailed event reports, proposals and contracts, sales budget worksheets, cost projections and other financials.
Analyze and reconcile disparate event details, and consolidate the information into actionable event plans.
Ensure Public Auditorium's online presence is consistent with current event calendar, sales and operations by regularly updating its website and social media information, photos, descriptions, and promotions.
Work with external partners to advertise Public Auditorium as a premier preferred venue and collaborate tourist promotional programs.
Develop and maintain data sheets including room specifications and reports of the activities of the Public Auditorium. Performs other related work as required.
