Working with a dynamic and innovative team at de Souza Institute, part of the University Health Network, the Technical Specialist, System Administrator position provides an opportunity to work on initiatives that address the current healthcare workforce crisis, helping to deliver healthcare education across Ontario, Canada and the world.
Reporting to the Director of Information Management, you will be responsible for assisting with the configuration, operation, maintenance, and security of servers and applications to support de Souza Institute’s IT operations.
This position will provide support and be responsible for managing incidents as well as helping with planning, designing and configuration of infrastructure to support delivery of web applications and eLearning content for learners of the Institute.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are an asset.
Monitors, administers and configures servers and applications running in the department
Performs diagnostics, develops, and manages corrective action in the event that systems or applications become unavailable or perform problematically.
Acts as an escalation point for IT issues and day to day operations for department staff and works with UHN Digital to address issues
Works with UHN Digital on managing changes to ensure stability of the IT infrastructure and day-to-day operations
Supports and coordinates security measures and updates in order to ensure application systems and data are protected and secure (PCI compliance with hosted payment provider)
Works with non-technical staff on understanding needs and improvements to systems and impact of infrastructure changes to operations
Facilitates, manages and initiates interactions with vendors and UHN Digital support teams.
Documents architectures, standards, support scripts, and standard operating procedures, creates technical documentation
Assists with technical project work for the education and research community at UHN
Minimum 3-5 years of LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) web application administration experience on RHEL / CentOS
Ability to understand and write system administration scripts (bash or python)
At a minimum, completion of Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Management Information Systems or equivalent demonstrable qualifications
Practical and working knowledge of Internet and client / server architectures.
Experience with virtualization (VMWare) and / or Azure / AWS
Experience with MySQL / MariaDB
Experience with Jenkins and CI / CD concepts
Exposure to LAMP stack or similar web application infrastructure
Experience working with version control systems, issue trackers and documentation systems, Git, Github, Stash / Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence
Strong technical communication and writing skills, including the ability to write clear and concise requirements, design specifications, and project documents
