We are currently seeking an Investment Specialist to join our New Westminster Branch. The Investment Specialist (IS) is responsible for the provision of ongoing service delivery and the proactive sale of investment products to a portfolio of assigned customers through managing, building business or referring customers while remaining compliant with our policies, processes and procedures, and in support of our customer centric service model.

The IS will provide a superior level of customer service that will enhance individual customer relationships to ensure that both individual and branch goals and objectives are achieved.

The IS will be required to source opportunities, build out a portfolio and where appropriate make referrals to other business lines or to an Investment Advisor.

This role may serve clientele at more than one branch location, based on branch volumes.

What you’ll do :

Manages and grows a portfolio of clients

  • Manages an assigned book of investment business encompassing primarily term deposits and mutual funds
  • Builds and maintains strong, trusted member relationships by providing customized service based on customers investment planning needs and risk profile
  • Reviews and analyzes portfolios on a regular basis and recommends adjustments to balance the portfolio based on client objectives and risk assessment.
  • Proactively follows up on new and existing clients using appropriate contact and service protocols, referral and maturity dates.
  • Ensures retention of existing clients by providing professional advice / services and added value.
  • Maintains a current referral log and tracks member service within the CRM system.
  • Recognizes client needs beyond area of expertise and refers to experts within the credit union, i.e. commercial and financial planning area.
  • Interviews clients, analyzes current wealth management products.
  • Completes a wealth management questionnaire and know your client form on each client to assess risk tolerance and recommends appropriate products based on assessment of information provided.
  • Keeps up to date with industry trends, products and other matters that may impact member portfolios.
  • Proactively builds business and membership both within current portfolio and new clients

  • Actively participates in business development plans and activities to build networks for new customers or referrals for potential customers.
  • Establishes relationships with potential new customers through proactive networking, sourcing and follow up.
  • Prepares required documents for the purchase of recommended investment products (within prescribed limits and guidelines relevant to product solutions) and ensures appropriate reviews and processing.
  • Prepares required documentation for branch products and services, acting within policy
  • Provides guidance and advice to branch staff

  • Provides consultative services when required for mutual fund investment related member interactions managed by branch management and staff
  • Shares industry trends and product knowledge with branch proactively or through regularly scheduled branch meetings.
  • Assumes a leadership role with branch team to ensure individual, branch and organizational targets are achieved.
  • Assists other business lines and consumer operations areas in meeting their targets by identifying cross-sell opportunities and making quality referrals.
  • Refers product and investment guidance outside of expertise

  • Interviews customers, analyzes current wealth management products and refers customers to an Investment Advisor if assessment determines a need for financial planning, estate and tax planning or life insurance products.
  • Other duties as assigned

    What you bring : Education


  • 1 Year Post Secondary Certificate, or equivalent
  • Enrolled in CFP program within 6 months of attaining the position
  • Experience

  • 3 years’ experience in front line position within a financial institution with proven sales experience in RRSP / Investment deposits
  • Experience selling 3rd Party Mutual Funds
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients
  • Detailed experience with deposit related products, personal lending, and residential mortgages
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licenses or Certifications

  • Mutual funds license
  • Related Skills

  • Preference for :

  • Courses towards or completion of CFP Designation
  • Familiarity with PlanPlus financial planning software
