Job Description

The New York Times Editing Center, a fast-paced 40-person editing and production operation in Gainesville, Florida, seeks a slot-level editor with leadership experience to direct the New York Times News Service.

Ideal candidates will bring several years of managing people and offer Times-level editing, slotting and production skills.

Duties include guiding the daily report from early story lists to fully formed wire articles sent to hundreds of domestic and international clients;

anticipating staffing and workflow issues and providing appropriate and timely feedback to fellow editors; working with managers in other departments to form consensus on operational needs, including recruitment, training, culture and morale;

ensuring that the work meets Times standards and upholds the company brand; being a skilled user and leader on The Times’ content management / information systems;

and partnering with the managing editor on scheduling and personnel evaluations. Strong communication skills are a must, as is a meticulous attention to detail.

Taking the tasks seriously without taking yourself too seriously would separate the top contenders for a position with high expectations and responsibility.

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field is required.
