Project Description : The selected candidate will work on evaluating transportation services in Saskatchewan with the aim of helping with a business plan for the province.
The project relates to transportation planning in Saskatchewan. For many individuals who cannot drive (e.g. healthy older adults and those with cognitive impairment and / or dementia, physical disabilities), there are substantial problems whereby access to fundamental services (e.
g. specialized health services) is challenging and can reduce social participation and quality of life. Last year, several private transportation services have ceased, leaving thousands of people without access to transportation.
Phase I of the project was an environmental scan of available transportation services (and is complete). Phase II includes a survey that is currently being deployed and Phase III includes conducting interviews with key stakeholders.
The selected candidate will analyze the survey data, as well as perform interviews / focus groups with key stakeholders (e.
g. Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, MLA’s, Residents of SK) and perform associated analyses. Additionally, the selected candidate will help evaluate a new community led-
transportation service in Saskatchewan (with the aim of scaling-up to other towns). Together, the findings will inform the business plan for developing a sustainable transportation plan in Saskatchewan.
Expectations : We are seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to work in the area of Program Evaluation and Community Mobility.
Candidates must hold a PhD in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Aging, Evaluation, Health) at the time of appointment and have experience working in a research environment.
The anticipated start date is August 1, 2019. This is a one-year position with an opportunity for renewal.
The successful candidate will join a unique team, comprising of researchers, clinicians, policy makers and knowledge users.
The successful candidate will work with the research team to perform conduct surveys, interviews and focus groups to collect the necessary evidence to inform alternative transportation planning in the province.
Additionally, the selected candidate will take a leading role in evaluating a new community led transportation service in rural Saskatchewan to ensure its success and sustainability.
In addition to the above, the candidate is expected to contribute to the business plan, as well as being involved in grant submissions, mentoring of graduate students, developing / submitting manuscripts, conference presentations, as well as knowledge translation activities.
Requirements : Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Health Studies or a related field at time of appointment. The candidate should have a background in program evaluation and mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative methods and analyses).
Prior experience working with older adults, as well as in transportation, are considered assets, as well as prior experience writing grants, manuscripts and preparing conference presentations.
A valid driver’s license is also required as the selected candidate will visit various regions of the province.
