Job Description

As a member of the Stewardship Investment team, the Senior Advisor will be responsible for identifying and analyzing the material ESG risks of public and private companies in the context of investment transactions.

These analyses will highlight issues requiring post-investment follow-ups that use, among other things, performance indicators.

The Senior Advisor will also take part in commitment initiatives with companies with which CDPQ seeks to establish a dialogue.

In addition, he or she will collaborate on the development of the team’s strategy as well as various CDPQ policy and position initiatives, including through proxy voting.

Lastly, the Senior Advisor will participate in the monitoring of emerging ESG risks, stewardship investment trends, and industries / companies that have a positive impact on society and the environment.

Main responsibilities :

  • Analyze the ESG and extra-financial risks in investment transactions for all of CDPQ’s asset classes (Public Equity, Fixed Income, Private Equity, Infrastructure);
  • Identify avenues of engagement and dialogue with the investment teams and with portfolio companies;
  • Analyze governance and compensation practices; proxy voting;
  • Monitor and identify emerging ESG risks;
  • Help define the team’s strategy;
  • Serve as liaison with the investment teams, answering their ESG questions and helping them develop their due diligence plans; and

    Conduct or participate in research on stewardship investing issues, themes and opportunities.

    Requirements :

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, law, business administration or any other combination of education and experience considered equivalent;
  • CFA, SASB-FSA or SIPC designation would be considered an asset;
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience analyzing companies for stewardship investment purposes;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;
  • Knowledge of private equity and infrastructure investment processes is an asset; and

    Excellent command of written and spoken English and French.
