Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Genomics, the Clinical Genomics Technologist I provides lab services for diagnostic purposes to support clinical care as well as academic and research needs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
PCR (including RT-PCR and fluorescent PCR)
Sequencing, MLPA, RAD, Microarray, and NGS analysis
Gel electrophoresis
Problem-solves at a basic, operational level using an analytical approach
Cytogenetic specimen set up, tissue culture and harvest
Operates and maintains common laboratory equipment / instruments
QA / QC procedures and documentation
Performs duties in compliance with established operational policies, procedures and protocols and in accordance with safety guidelines and legislation pertaining to health care (i.
e. WHMIS, TDG, OHS, waste management)
Hours of Work
Monday Friday; 7.5 hrs / day; Weekend and call back as required.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in, or graduate of, a recognized Clinical Genetics Technology program required.
Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and / or Microarray techniques preferred.
Valid Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) license or eligibility required.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates effective problem solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a collaborative team environment
