Simon Fraser University (SFU) is looking for an experienced, dedicated and professional Mechanical Manager to join Facilities Services located at the Burnaby campus.

Facilities Services at the Burnaby Campus, invites qualified Mechanical Managers or similar role applicants to join their team of engineering and planning professionals, technical staff and unionized trades.

Your new role

As a Mechanical Manager, you will report to the Associate Director, Mechanical Services, in the Maintenance & Operations division at Facilities Services.

The key component will be to provide mechanical and administrative services for the SFU Community by overseeing the day-to-day management of its operations.

Managing day- to- day activities of shift engineers, mechanical trades’ staff and completion of work orders will be a part of your skillset.

The Mechanical Manager, identifies, researches and recommends external contractors for specific projects, negotiates rates, terms of services, and project timelines with contractors and serves as the primary contact for client service matters related to mechanical trades service requests and recurring maintenance issues.

This role ensures that the appropriate safety equipment is available and maintained for use by all employees and responds to emergency situations arising on worksites where mechanical trades’ staff are present.

The Mechanical Department is responsible for the safe, efficient, consistent operation of all campus mechanical systems, and you will play an imperative, leadership role in this team.

What you’ll need to succeed

As the Mechanical Manager, you will bring the following minimum requirements : 3rd class power engineer certification in good standing with TSBC, 5 years of related experience in the areas of heating and air conditioning, and / or power plant operations, and 3 years supervisory experience in a unionized setting.

You will have knowledge of codes and regulatory requirements, relating to the operation & maintenance including management of boilers, pressure vessels, fire protection, HVAC equipment and preventative maintenance.

Sound knowledge of energy management, engineering principles, HVAC designs, district energy systems and / or project management credentials are considered assets to your role.

You will be professionally presented, organized, a strong communicator, and have excellent computer skills, along with budget, financial and resource management skills.

You will exercise mature judgment and initiative complemented by good work ethics in a unionized setting.

The benefits provided by SFU are comparable to market for MSP, LD, SD and more, but SFU’s pension plan is worth looking into as part of your remuneration.
