Supervises and manages a designated team(s) within Global AML / ATF ( GAMLU ) enterprise-wide investigative unit. Manages personnel and ensures the delivery of clearly reasoned findings and actions associated with regional and global investigations, along with the timely disposition of such investigations.
Ensures all activities conducted comply with all relevant governing regulations (both domestic and foreign), as well as internal policies and procedures.
Plans, co-ordinates, and manages investigations of potential Money Laundering ( ML ), Terrorist Financing ( TF ), or other matters related to complex and sensitive cases referred by team members, international FIUs, and GAMLU partners.
Executes the operational processes, and maintains quality performance, for BNS’s day-to-day special investigations teams, including timely investigations and proper regulatory reporting.
Consistently delivers clearly reasoned, rationale, and timely outcomes, findings and actions associated with FIU investigations, thereby mitigating potential financial, regulatory, reputational and legal risk to BNS.
Key Accountabilities :
Prioritizes and manages investigations conducted by the GAMLU Team, including monitoring performance and meeting established benchmarks.
Establishes and monitors GAMLU investigative team goals and objectives to manage workload and performance.
Reviews, approves, and prepares GAMLU investigative reports, along with related documents.
Provides coaching / feedback and recommends actions regarding global investigations, as appropriate. Mentors the investigative teams and manages resources required to complete investigations.
Confirms the timely reporting of suspicious transaction reporting ( STR ) and other required AML / TF filings to the proper regulatory authority, in accordance with regulations.
Recommends risk mitigation actions and next steps at the conclusion of GAMLU investigations.
Prepares materials and delivers GAMLU investigative results to the appropriate staff, including identification of trends and areas for improvement.
Apprises and advises senior personnel regarding on-going investigations and findings.
Communicates regularly with team members to identify challenges and obstacles related to the team’s objectives
Identifies and suggests AML / ATF awareness training needs to discuss trends and changes in money laundering typologies.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills sets relevant for ML, TF, sanction and other regulatory matters to perform global investigations.
Shares subject matter expertise and provides specialized advice, guidance and direction to team members on money laundering, financing of terrorism, and other related issues as they pertain to investigative work.
Supports, mentors, and coaches team members for on-going professional development to ensure that individuals and collective team knowledge is current and comprehensive to support the investigation process and to ensure that outcomes, including decisions and recommendations are based on a thorough understanding of risk and made in the context of relevant and full knowledge.
Understands and applies the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Creates an environment in which his / her team pursue effective and efficient operations of his / her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-
to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML / ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML / ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Experience / Education :
University degree or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in AML disciplines. In addition,
Extensive knowledge of significant and relevant local and international AML laws and regulations, particularly related to investigations
Demonstrated subject matter expertise in ML / TF investigations
Strong investigative skills and understanding of complex financial transactions using AML investigative technology.
Strong writing and analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment as to the materiality of risks where identified
Proven ability in determining required risk mitigation activities with appropriate consideration to the impact to the business line
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Uses an analytical approach to problem solving, with a focus on managing a team environment coupled with attention to results and a sense of urgency
Ability to communicate in French and / or Spanish is an asset.
Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation is an asset.
