Tsain-Ko Forestry Limited Partnership (Tsain-Ko) is located in beautiful Sechelt, BC and is the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sechelt Nation.
Tsain-ko holds its own Forest Licences and partners with other forest companies and government on additional joint ventures.
The annual volume under management is increasing, and we are looking to grow our team.
ROLE PURPOSE :
Responsible for full-cycle accounting on a variety of forestry projects.
Responsible for monitoring general accounting practices, budgeting, developing internal accounting structures.
This role requires task-oriented leadership and adherence to tight and monitored deadlines with close attention to detail.
Support the financial processes in keeping with budgetary processes and controls, policies and procedures.
GENERAL DUTIES AND TASKS
General Accounting Duties and Tasks
Create, manage and report forest project data and produce monthly reports management and strategic partners;
Work closely with the Senior Management team to support the achievement of Tsain-Ko financial and operational objectives;
With the Finance Manager, oversee accounting processes, maintain and review general ledger activities; reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll;
Assure all forestry operations follow generally accepted accounting principles and expectations;
Support budget and forecasting activities.
Cost Accounting Tasks
Review full-cycle Harvesting costs for 100,000 m3 - 150,000 m3 per year;
Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings;
Prepare documents and interpret financial information regarding cost improvements for managers and senior management;
Lead project forecasting and interface with our strategic partners.
Forestry Project Accounting Duties and Tasks
Set up projects in the system and implements control and maintenance activities;
Research and respond to accounting and financial queries on projects;
Liaise with Accountants, Partners, Vendors, and Management;
Monitor and ensure accuracy of costs and revenues, including deferred and inventoried work in progress costs;
Month-end project reporting on a timely basis; support the accounting and project teams as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES :
Education & Experience Requirements :
Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
Thorough depth of knowledge in financial and cost accounting
Effective attention to detail and highly analytical
Ability to build relationships, manage stress and work well under pressure
High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability; is honest and trustworthy
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Strong ability to prioritize and develop timelines to fit organizational demands
Excellent communication skills, both in writing and face-to-face
High level of proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook,) dashboards, email, e-commerce, and internet searching
Business Degree with a specialization in accounting (or equivalent skills and experience)
Professional accounting designation (CPA) or substantial completion in CPA designation requirements preferred
Experience with financial reporting and complex management accounting structures
Experience with cost accounting and project accounting systems an asset
Experience in forestry preferred
Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience

High paced growing work environment with complex assignments and tight deadlines
Long hours of work and work outside of traditional office hours may be required
Ability to deal with changes within the company
