About the Opportunity

Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) is seeking a nephrologist to also provide the following services for a 10-bed dialysis unit that operates three shifts per day and currently manages around 55 patients :

  • Internal Medicine
  • ICU coverage
  • Dialysis coverage
  • YRH is a community site for the Internal Medicine program at Dalhousie University with approximately four to five residents per year.

    In addition, a fellowship program for the R4 and R5 fellows starts in July 2019, which will provide two fellows per year full-time.

    YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 58,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties.

    Located in Yarmouth, YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs :

  • Dalhousie School of Nursing
  • veteran’s unit
  • chronic pain clinic
  • kidney clinic

  • alternate level of care unit
  • ambulatory care
  • anesthesiology

  • Responsibilities

  • provide full scope of practice internist services
  • participate in call shifts
  • provide support to your own site but also to others in the Western Zone if required including day-time coverage and occasional overnight / weekend coverage
  • be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • participate in teaching both family medicine and internal medicine residents and fellows
  • Expected Hours

  • Internal Medicine call (1 : 8)
  • ICU coverage (1 week in 8)
  • dialysis coverage (1 : 3)
  • Qualifications

  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
