Position Summary

Successful candidate will work in a dynamic team on the design ofmechanical building services. The successful candidate should have thecapability to work in a fast-

paced environment, with the ability to communicateand interact directly with other disciplines (architects, electrical / structuralengineers, etc.

The projects will be based primarily on industrial buildingdesign. Successful candidate will develop solutions to complexproblems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.

Core responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and controls) in industrial and commercial buildings,
  • Develop construction documents (plans, details, schematics) in AutoCAD, and in some cases Revit,
  • Review of all project specifications,
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for information related to the area of responsibility,
  • Perform detailed calculations in sizing and selection of HVAC equipment,
  • Assist senior engineer / designer in carrying out technical tasks,
  • Become knowledgeable in areas related to the responsibilities of and the interaction between the Mechanical department and other departments.
  • These areas shall include, but not limited to, other engineering disciplines, Project Management, Project Controls and Purchasing,

  • Provide technical advice to others within the company,
  • Travel to site for equipment testing / witnessing, and field reviews / inspections.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of working in a consulting firm.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Canadian experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience with Alberta Building Code, Alberta Fire Code, National Plumbing Code, and other applicable building codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE and SMACNA standards.
  • Minimum of 12 years working experience with mechanical building systems and designing building services within the industrial building sector.
  • Minimum of 12 years working experience with heating water, chilled water, refrigeration, and plumbing systems in a plant environment.
  • Project track record of design for HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Building Automation Systems design for small to medium size projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Experience in using Trane Trace or similar software for load calculations.
  • Experience with commercial building design is considered an asset,
  • Experience with Revit would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience or track record of managing multiple projects and working in a fast-paced environment while being able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems during the full project lifecycle.
  • Proficient with computers and standard office software applications.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Energetic personality, team player, committed to excellence, focus on quality and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to travel to client sites across Canada (valid Canadian driver’s license with clean driving record).
