The Opportunity :

The QA Specialist is responsible for testing software applications and products that are developed in house by the IT department at First National.

The QA Specialist is responsible for all manual testing of programming changes affecting the software used by all departments at First National, which includes : Underwriting software, documents, websites / mobile applications and all data exchanges with outside sources and any other areas where testing may be required.

  • Analyze / Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents entered by the IT Business Analysts
  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans, test suites and test cases in Microsoft Azure DevOps
  • Track testing progression using Microsoft Azure DevOps or other applicable methods as indicated by the Assistant Manager
  • Assist in estimating, prioritizing, planning and coordinating testing activities
  • Identify, record, document and track bugs thoroughly throughout the testing life cycle
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product owners) to identify system requirements
  • Assist with preparing communications related to software changes and product enhancements; work with the Training Facilitator to ensure training presentations and materials reflect all system changes / requirements
  • Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts using Azure DevOps
  • Take the initiative to stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Manager.
  • The Requirements Needed :

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills; project management skills an asset
  • Ability to self-motivate, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to think independently, problem solve, and grasp new concepts quickly
  • Proficient with Optimus Servicing platform
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Expressed interest in technology and continuous learning an asset
  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field and / or 3-5 years equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years experiencing using Microsoft Azure DevOps or Teams Foundation Server (TFS) an asset
  • 4+ years’ experience with First National systems and practices an asset
  • Strong analytical, logical and business knowledge
  • Strong knowledge and experience in creating Test Plans and Test Cases
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerBI an asset
